rather extended reach mod there.

No, no extended reach modification - it's a standard MF40 loader, apart from a hydraulic tilt replacing the mechanical trip and using a bale
spike attachment. Jim

What size bales are those, mid to older size loader tractors I see around here are well worn, lower hyd pressures, and just don?t lift a round bale, too hard on the old front ends.

Tho, mostly 5 and 6 foot bales around here folk don?t fool with the little ones that uses too much twine...... so it?s heavy bales here.

I use a 3pt bale fork and the 960 Ford and 1720 NH struggle to lift a round bale, the 5200 Ford with 3 weights on front is very light steering, the 7700 Ford with fliud in all 4 tires can even get light up front picking a frozen down bale up.

I just don?t see how those old loaders would get the job done, wish I had one that did....

Normally, round bales here (Scotland) of hay, silage or straw are net wrapped 4x4s, either hard or soft centred. Occasionally straw bales are 5x4. Never seen anything bigger around here. A 4x4 hard centred bale of hay (as in the pic) will weigh about 500 to 600lbs - my MF135 handles that weight no bother, and can stack 3 high in the shed, although power steering would be good! Jim

1000 to 1300 lbs bales is what I put up,, I have no problem handling them with my "older" unit,, I use my 580CK as it was made for heavy work,, I handle 800-1500 of them a year, just last week I loaded out over 500 in two days,,
