Roosa Master injection pump

YES! Water in fuel CAN cause head seizure/shaft breakage. Water in fuel can also cause cam ring/shoe/roller damage too, I have a late JD 4020 pump apart now with those parts severely worn.

Only way to prevent water damage is to NEVER let it get into pump in the first place. Always check and drain if needed at the sediment bowl/water trap, and keep the fuel tank full when not in use. A full tank won't "sweat", or draw moisture like you can see sometimes on tank side, and since tank is vented the moisture you see on outside is on the inside too. Both gas and diesel tanks will draw moisture since they are vented, LP gas does not have the water trouble as tanks are sealed/under pressure.

Yes their are additives you can use. But as Dieseltech said. Don't let the water build up in the first place.I did standby generators. It was always a fight to get people to understand. To keep the tanks as full as possible. And have a good filter system. Drain the filters at least once a week.Make it part of the weekly inspection. I could always tell the ones that didn't check their systems.

plus u did all this work on this engine and pump and injectors, and did you even think to drain the old fuel out and make sure the fuel system was clean to your satisfaction on a tractor that was sitting around. any diesel tractor I have resurrected from the dead I have drained the tank and start fresh. those little sediment bowls only hold so much water. plus they have drain plugs on the bottom of them.

I had tank off and cleaned tank inside and out shiny clean rinsed with diesel fuel and let sit out in the hot sun to dry new filters new line to filters and pump filled tank from one source and that source had a filter on it as well which was used on a regular basis...So how is that?.lol

then its possible that water got poured into the tank . unlikely that much water would accumulate over a few months. keep better eye on the water trap.

could be due to shoddy work by the pump shop?rebuilt 8 months ago and used the tractor a little over a dozen times.is this possible?

yes, could be. many times they have lots of pumps on the shelf ready to go. then yours is replaced with an overhauled shelf unit. then your is rebuilt and put on shelf. I had similar thing happen years ago on my 1986 chev 6.2 engine. after pump rebuild engine broke the crank due to too much fueling. got checking pump #"s and they installed a pump from a 1 ton on it. was not even my original pump. and I remember making the comment when picking up the truck, I said that sure was a fast job!
