I just heard that recently too. We went to a presentation by a game and fish officer here in Arizona, about the big fire last summer. Apparently the ash on the ground prevents water absorption, so there is more runoff and washed out the highway! And they don't know when it will get fixed and re-opened, no money!

Ash will acidify the pond, don't think I would want that.

Get some bentonite and sheep foot it in.

We never ever allow wood ashes to be placed purposely in a water supply....

Water mixed with WOOD ASHES = LYE.....
Lye kills......

When I was a pre teenager I had a job.....scooping wood ashes from the wood fired WATER HEATERS....

Ashes were placed in a 55 gallon drum....water was added....HIDE from butchered beef animal was placed in ASH / WATER drum......hair fell off HIDE in < five days....

If an individual is caught by the Game Warden starting a wood fire on a lake ......there is a high penalty......
The by result of Water mixed with WOOD ASHES is LYE.....

My Mother used LYE... in making soap...rendering down animal tallow..

Lye

A lye is a metal hydroxide traditionally obtained by leaching ashes, or a strong alkali which is highly soluble in water producing caustic basic solutions. "Lye" is commonly an alternative name of sodium hydroxide or historically potassium hydroxide, though the term "lye" refers most commonly to sodium hydroxide.
