OT Garage door opener sensers

I have seen them mounted in the trusses facing each other a few inches apart. I personally have never seen a problem putting them where they belong, there is a reason they are there.

(quoted from post at 11:36:20 12/14/19) Anyone know how to by pass sensers on an older Craftsman garage door opener?
ou might be able to do it if you are an electrical engineer. I looked it up once. According to the article I read you have to install some kind of "generator" to the receiving side of the system. Simply twisting the wires together accomplishes nothing. This is just one article though, it might have been hog wash. Google it.

actually its when lowering the door that if the sensor see's something it will open door . raising the door does nothing.

If you're having alignment problems, and they are attached to the track, try moving them to brackets attached to the wall.

They will be more stable that way, won't misalign when the track flexes as the door moves.

oo complicated to do it any other way, as they dcommunicate with unit by a digital code, as observed on oscilloscope.

Rust Red ..... yes, you're right, that's the way mine works. I always wondered about that ..... so when opening, if something interferes with the radar beam (or whatever you might call it) then it keeps opening right?

I've seen them mounted above the door aimed at each other close together, think mine are mounted on the tracks and I've had to reposition one a couple of times. There're made to reverse the door when your little kid or dog takes a run at it.

Mount them facing each other a few inches apart. That said mine are mounted as they should and I have no problem with them until the middle of July between 3pm and 4pm, the sun shines on them and the door won't come down LOL. I stop the truck just outside the door to block the sun and that works. To be honest it doesn't do it that often.

that is right. they work when closing the door, so if u walk past the beam or even drive into the beam it will stop then open all the way up. just opening the door the beam does nothing.

Flembo ..... the sun shines on them? So your little sensors are getting sunlight through a window then at a certain time of day in a certain time of July right? I thought for a minute they might be mounted outside but that wouldn't make much sense.

Don't know the answer to your question.
I had a pair go bad even though the LEDs on the sensors showed they were good.

I think I have a pair of 25 year old aensitive that I'll need to replace. On a occasions I'll have to hold the remote until the door closes and the LEDs aren't working.

That's a round 2 it job.

No. He means when the door is open the sun shines on the sensors and interferes with the beam. Mine will also do that at certain times of the year when the sun angle is just right.

I would move the sensors back from the edge of the door, they will work just as good inboard a few inches as right at edge.

Try swapping the units to the opposite side of the door.

One emits IR light, and the other "receives" it.

When bright sun shines directly into the receiver it can overwhelm it, swapping the positions of the units likely will avoid that.

tape them together facing each other and secure them up out of the way so the wires do not get damaged. Then forget them.

A dog shouldn?t ?trip? the sensors while the door is going up. Only when the door is going down.
