Tractor trivia questions

Each year for our tractor club Christmas party I put together a bunch of tractor trivia questions. Just wondering if any of you would suggest some questions and answers that I can use? BTW I do use some off this website and often write them down through out the year. Like last week when someone called the Oil-all-over (Oliver). Thanks for any help.

Nice trivia question for Americans. What kind of tractor was presented to Dwight Eisenhower upon his retirement? Answer, a Cockshutt Blackhawk. The Cockshutt tractors were built in Canada, and Blackhawks were only built for two years, and are quite rare.

What tractor had the greatest horsepower to weight ratio? What had the shortest turning radius? When was the last flathead used in a tractor. What was the first OHV tractor?
Who was last to use mounted equipment?
What is the fastest production tractor? The slowest? Why were the Minnie Mos so darned ugly?😏

Not to rain on your parade. For our car show trivia I tried to come up with a tough question for our best prize. I used an obscure Monty Python reference and came up with ?What make and model did Mr and Mrs Brian Norris drive to Houdslow?? In today?s connected world it only took about 2 minutes before some lady in the crowd came up with the right answer. She was not a big car buff (there with her husband) and admitted she had never watched Monty Python.

With that said I hope this community gives you some good ones as the idea can still be fun. One thought is to ask where some of the old makers built their tractors. I.E. ?Who manufactured tractors in La Porte Ind??

(quoted from post at 06:23:14 12/13/19) Thanks Bruce, this is the kind of questions I am looking for and thanks for giving the answer.

Krum, I thought the other guys had some good ones too????? I will have to do a few hours of googling and see if I can come up with one like Bruce's

What tractor was produced and sent to dealers and then the company ordered them all destroyed.
Answer: The Dain that was built by JD, but because they were very expensive, John Deere ordered them destroyed.
Some were parked on a frozen river and sank when the ice melted.
I have seen one that was totally restored.

What tractor has a foot clutch that you step DOWN on instead of pushing it FORWARD? Allis Chalmers "U". I hated that tractor. Uncle owned one that I ran doing heavy tillage work. It was powerful but oh so hard to control!

"What tractor has a foot clutch that you step DOWN on instead of pushing it FORWARD? Allis Chalmers "U". "

Seems to me that would describe the clutch pedal on the "N" Fords and a whole heard of Masseys, as well.

Ok what is the most common problem you will have if you insist on leaving your garden / lawn tractor out in the rain all summer? Answer latter. Some of you already know the answer. Just for giggles....see if you can get any agreement about what to load rear tires with. Opinion pole. Another would be battery charger maintainer. I have 5hem all over 5he place and they do work. See what your pole says. Bet a lot of people would be surprised by the results. Why do some people put the rear tires on their tractors backwards. To take them to shows they ride smoother. Also a lot of road running. Now think about a pole questionnaire.

Where do the Strahans fit into Champion spark plugs?
What tire manufacture and what tractor manufacture worked together in the early 1930's by racing tractors on state fair race tracks?

It was the Oliver G-955 There was no Oliver 1355. The Moline G-1355 had a Moline engine and was an Oliver from the clutch back.

O K - - When are the answers to the un-answered questions coming? I'm stumped on a couple. jal-SD

Tractorkrum,

Ask them, "What is SweetFeet's favorite tractor color?"

Bet they can 't find that answer by Googling. LOL

What was the first direct start diesel tractor? No pony,or start on gas, etc. Push a switch, and it starts?

A lot of times that dang rain water will find it's way down into the mandrels bearings and the idler pulleys. Ask me how I know. If you need to leave the machine out, at least throw a tarp over it. The tractor going across the country is that guy with the John Deere and his house trailer. Backwards tires on a tractor. If you do a lot of road driving it allows the tires to run smoother and doesn't chew them up as much. At least that is what has been said on here several times. Actually makes sense because you get the wide part hitting the road first instead of the point of the arrow. Just loose some traction. On an international harvester tractor where is the #1 position on the distributor? There is a tiny notch in the shoulder of the body about 2 o'clock looking from behind. Something really weird. How do you time an international V8 truck engine? You hook the timing lite to the .........#8 plug. Yup. Grand dads Travel-all. What is always a funny one. When you take the oil bath pan off an old tractor and dump out that incredibly gunky 30w oil. Do you scrape out the sedimentary rock formation in the bottom of the bowl? That is some really ancient dirt down there. How many types of fast hitch was there on internationals, don't forget the CUB. Speaking of CUBS. How much does the wheel weight weigh. I think it is 150lbs. What side is the shifter on. Did CUBS ever have a HORN ? Yes they did. Was a Delco horn and it was the low note. Mounted right behind the radiator down on the right side of the tractor. Extremely rare option. How fast would a M or H tractor with that road gear option go. I knew a guy that had one. My stars that baby was FAST!!! How fast would you empty the hydraulic reservoir on a John Deere when the hydraulic hose to the bale kicker blows up? I can tell you a story about the neighbor doing that many years ago on a summer evening. Made a beautiful honey color cloud of oil in the evening sun lite. What is that extra hole in the dashboard on a 350 for? Cigar litter.

"6) Al balanced our books by depositing two coins totaling 55 cents. One is not a nickel. What are the two coins ?
______ and _______ "

A half dollar and a nickel. (One is not a nickel---but the OTHER one is!!)

Actually backward tires on a tractor or combine were for muddy conditions as when you started to get stuck with the less traction you could have more traction to back out to get around the mud hole. Helped me different times with the 2 row mounted corn picker.

The Stranahans owned the champion factory in Toledo Ohio. My Father-in-lay when he was young boy was the Stranahan's paper carrier.

If yoy are talking of the PTO being driven from the rear end of the tractor you are correct. But a Coop C (I think) of pre war vintage had one avaible but it drove off the front of the tractor engine with 2 heavy V belts driving a shaft along the left side of the tractor. I don't remember how the back was st up. I have seen one with that rare setup.
