Question for Rusty6 about his Ford

Yesterday I had to go into downtown Toronto, and while driving along Eastern Ave I heavy traffic during a snow storm, I spie a car that looked a o lot like your 52 Merc. Now I don?t know much about Fords from the 50?s , just weren?t many around, we lived close to the big GM assembly plant in Oshawa, so most cars and trucks were Chevy. Now this car I saw yesterday reminded me so much of your Merc. It was even the same colour. Traffic slowed enough while I was right beside this snow covers Ford, that I could read the model badge. It said Ford Crestliner or Crestline . Would that be the same as your Merc, but in the Ford family instead of the Mercury family? Hard to see much detail of the car, as it was covered in snow and snowing hard. Made me think of your car and videos.

My dad had a 52 Ford custom, and my Grand dad on moms side had a 52 Mercury. Other than the trim and taillights/grill, they were the same shell configuration. Engines had different displacements options, but the big difference was the dash board. The Mercury was a "space ship with rounded thruster controls, The ford was just a dash board. Memories, Jim

A little quick research finds Ford produced the Crestline 52-53-54. I was hoping to find what Canadian Mercury was the same car, but didn't.

While in the service in Fort Lewis in 1966, I seen a truck hauling a load of Ford pickup's that had "Mercury" across the tail gate. Being from here, I had never thought of that.

My dad had one of those.

It was blue, it's name was Blue Ford.

He used it for a loaner car at his garage.

I think I was the last one to run it, about 10 years old, revving it up listening to the leaking exhaust. The timing chain jumped. I think it went to the scrap yard.

I was laying low, not asking any questions!

It could also have been a Meteor. They were pretty much identical to Fords except for grilles and trim. The top of the line Meteors had the Mercury engine (255) and also the unique Mercury instrument panel.
Mercury had two trim levels, the basic Custom like mine and the top of the line Monterrey.

This is a 53 Meteor Crestline that shows up at the local car show. Got the same power train as my Merc but its a Ford body with unique Meteor trim. Most of you probably know that Meteors were only built in Canada for the Canadian market. Much like the Monarch and the Mercury trucks.

In 52 and 53 Crestline was the hardtop and converts for US Fords. 54 same with addition of a 4door fancy ride. You can sorta make out the Crestline at the front of the side trim on the 53.

True, for the most part. 1962 and '63 Meteors were sold in the US.
