another rant

I have one hay field that lays parallel to the road with an entrance at both ends. A few years ago a large oak tree in the field died and I cut it up and buried the stump upside down with the backhoe. Fast forward to last summer. The dug out area sank in a little so I ordered a tri-axle load of top soil and dressed it up and seeded the area. The grass was coming on nicely until someone drove through it yesterday and squished mud everywhere and rutted it up. I have avoided putting up fences and gates because of constantly getting off tractors to unlock gates, both me and my neighbor who works the hay with me. Ellis

put a gate up with a solar powered gate opener I have two never get out of the cab just push a button mine is a G.T.O. which stands for gates that open 10 years no problems replaced the batt once

Put up gates and leave them closed when your not in that field and open up and leave them open when you are in the field simple as that. Plus the no trespass signs

It's a trade-off, occasionally fixing some ruts might cost less than putting up a fence and gates. If trespassing becomes chronic, a fence is better. Make sure you have proper No Trespassing signs posted.

Gates and fences is all you are allowed to do in canada --- and it isnt just some thing to look good as it actually has to stop a vehicle or person. No trespassing sign just gives them some thing to vandalize -- to punish you for having the nerve to object to them coming in there. No way to charge them as you have to prove there "intent" in cort-- any lame excuse on there behalf will get it thrown out -- well unless it is a really big todo with police getting shot etc then they pull out all the stops . You pretty much have to live with it and then pay huge taxes on the land and or pay for the land itself. If it is a regular occurrence in a specific spot then hide a live notification (cell link) game camera -- then at least you have some thing to see what or if you lucky who is doing it . They know who you are -- any municipal map will show that but here even if you give the cops the licence number it is a big secret -- they wont tell you the name or address. If you have a clean driving record and can afford a few stikes then ram there vehicle and then being an accident you will (I think ) will get there info. It will be there word against yours and if you have a clean driving record the cops will lean in your favor.

In Wisconsin you don't need "NO TRESPASSING" signs to keep people out. Going onto someone's property without permission is trespassing plain and simple.

I see so much of that while mowing. I get a good flat field, and some bozo comes in when the ground is wet, and does brodies. Some damage so bad I can't mow parts it. It happens a lot. Kids buy four wheel pickups, and have no where to drive it, so they find the nearest field. Then they get stuck, and the tow truck gets stuck. Stan

I don't need any help rutting up a field. Seems lately the ground is pretty soft when first cutting of hay is ready to mow. Gates with chains and locks and fences seems to be your only solution. gobble

Ron .... hmmmm, I have read some ill-advised advice passed along here on the YT site over the years, yours would definitely make it into the top ten in the category of being dishonest.

Well yes it is in desperation -- OK what would you do when every thing is against you even the RCMP-- are you just going to lay down and let them take over your farm? I am open to sugestions and you seem to be very opinionated -- dont be shy lets hear you solution ?

Over the years there have been problems with people on my back property trespassing, hunting, parking, drinking and dumping trash. A gate was put up a few years ago, and that stopped the trespassing, however people are dumping their garbage on the side of the road next to the gate. Nobody wants to clean it up either, things like old mattresses, box springs and tires. Shameful.....

Ron, I guess all I can say is that just because I replied with what I think is a legitimate comment (and I think most people would agree), that doesn't mean I have a solution. What I will say though is your way of dealing with it is not only illegal but could get you in a mess of trouble for being dishonest. You might be surprised how easy it is to be exposed in such a matter. If I knew a guy who was in financial difficulty, while I might not have a solution to his problem, I don't think I would advise him to rob a bank. Not exactly the same thing of course but in a way it is similar. Whatever, good luck with what's happening, I don't envy you nor do I stand in judgement of someone who is in a desperate situation.

There is a large element of the American citizenry that we need to quit making excuses for. They are bums, even if they are your neighbors kids.
