Digging out today

Well we got about 2 foot of snow in a 40 hour storm. It turned sunny and about 25F
today. Last week I put the Kubota B2150 and loader in the shop and fitted a set of old
tire chains to the front. First chore was getting my Dakota started. The Bat goes dead
when it sets a few days. Backed that out of driveway and proceeded to clear the snow.

Someone gave me a few of those cheap harbor freight battery trickle chargers or maintainers, you should get yourself one they work good for sitting batteries. This is all they are.

Keep a battery tender on everything that doesn't get used daily in the winter, the days of dead batteries are behind me.

Consider yourself lucky that you didn't get both storms last week. Between wednesday and saturday last week we got 35+ inches of snow. But that is typical for UP here.

We got 20 inches here and our Fire Dept. got dispatched to four calls in the course of the day yesterday. Last night during our monthly FD meeting we got toned out for a serious medical. The house is on a very long winding downhill driveway. Our rescue crew goth there and called for additional manpower and the medic from the ambulance service arrived too. We sent an engine with three more members. Another few minutes and the chief was calling for sand. All three units were stuck due to snow over ice despite all units having On-Spots. We sent another truck with sand and two more men. The town road agent came by along with two department members who were still out plowing and sanding their regular customers. The ambulance service dispatched another unit to pick the patient up. They transported the patient on the back of the truck that had arrived last. We finally got everything back in quarters by 10:30. I was picturing needing a big tow truck to pull the engine back onto the driveway with the driver refusing to leave the paved road, but the guys were able to back it onto the driveway after some handwork. I am glad I wasn't driving the engine, I probably would have refused to drive down that driveway. I have backed a tri-axle dump truck some pretty long distancs not wanting to get into a situation that I couldn't back out of.
