Pole barn security without internet.

Looking for pole barn security without internet access. I would like something that would also take pics and sound an alarm. Not sure if any systems exist that would ring my phone too.
Perhaps I may need two or more security systems, one to ring phone, another to take pics and a third to sound an alarm. I would like to protect my tractors.
I haven't had a breakin in the past 42 years. However, no neighborhood is crime free. Recently had my car and truck plate removed from mailbox. So a locking mailbox is in the works, as soon an I can get duplicate keys made. Perhaps a doorbell cam is needed for house.

What do you have? A dog isn't an option for me.

Wire a infrared beam break system to a camera and an alarm in the house. This assumes your building is within a few hundred feet of the house. Jim

Is there a trail camera that I can view pics without down loading on a computer? I could install trail cameras inside house and barn. Pics would have to be stored remotely in the event someone removed them.

Have a barn, off the grid, back off the road, on a farm with no house. My security system is:
1. Several game cameras around barn, and on lane back to barn.
2. A few solar powered motion lights mounted around barn
3. A cheap noise maker alarm on barn person door
4. A game camera mounted inside barn, pointed at front door.
Not perfect, but seems to work. No issues (knock on wood)

How far is the house from the pole barn??? If not too far the you can use a wireless network to record the data off cameras. If longer you would need to bury a data cable to reach the house. Anything that would be downloadable to your phone would need to have internet.

Do a search for "cellular game camera". They send all photos to one or two phone numbers of your choice. I think some can also send pics to email if there is internet access. They cost a little more, but it's nearly impossible for anyone to steal or destroy the camera without their pic getting taken and sent to you. Granted, it's not foolproof. All someone has to do is come up from behind (if not covered by another camera) and/or damage the camera so that it cannot send pics. However, they would have no way of knowing if the camera had them or not.

As for an alarm, there are a number of security systems out there that are stand-alone -- meaning, they do not need internet to work. That's what we have. Might look into upgrading once the new phone lines get hooked up next Spring...but time will tell. Some are capable of also sounding an alarm, but you also have to keep your neighbors happy. If the alarm is where a bird or animal can set it off, you will not be very well liked in the neighborhood.

I know for years, many car alarms had a warning that it would sound if the intruder did not move. Don't know if anything like that is available, but might be something to look for.

It might also not be too bad an idea to look into a paid security service. You tell them what you want, then they do the work.

I don't know what they sell now, but I bought from a company called X-10 It was a wireless system we used on a storage building we had. There we only needed to transmit 100 ft. Back then it was cheap, and came as a kit, just add more cameras as needed.

Try this anyway.

I have 2 trail cameras. They are Browning Recon-Force. The cameras have a viewing screen so you do not need to remove the card and plug it into a computer. Also, There is such a thing as a card reader that plugs into your smart phone. It works. I have one.

JD,
Good idea. Planning on installing a sub panel next spring, water line and it would be easy to install a data cable to house.

Great Idea. I have a Christmas decoration. A bird house made out of a boot. I put it next to front door.

Simplisafe is probably going to rule the security market. Wireless setup and, if Internet is disconnected, it works off cellular. You can call them and see what the details look like to operate just on cellular or get it for the whole house and add items for the barn(s), you can probably get the wireless to work from the barn easy enough (you may need some additional things, like a wireless bridge). I am sure your son knows, Ubiquiti makes some fine products.

Simplisafe has or had a 50% off "Black Friday" sale going on. They have indoor cameras, door bell cameras, sirens, fire detectors, they had CO detectors, but I did not see them the last I looked and all of this is monitored for 15$ or another plan is a bit under 30$ a month. (No contract is another nice feature).

I am not directly connected with any company mentioned in this reply, I am a customer of both and may or may not be a stockholder.

George

It is great having smoke detectors monitored.......

Geo, with as much trouble as I have, got about ten trail cams all over the place, about hundred dollars apiece and take eight AA batterys about every week, expensive to run....got to be a better and cheaper way

I know a feller that has cameras named Blink. If you have wireless internet, the cameras use one or two AA batteries and record with motion. He has some in front of his home pointed to the street with regular traffic in a subdivision and the AA batteries have lasted ~6 months so far, very impressive.

One issue with cameras, even wireless, is the need for a power run, I never would have believed batteries, especially two AA batteries would last that long, but they have.

If anyone is interested, do your own research and testing before going all-in and make sure they work for you, in your situation. I have no connection to the company, nor am I even a customer. Myself, I have hard wired cameras to my own DVR/NVR. The Blink cameras record to the "cloud" which is general speak for recording to the companies' data center, owned or contracted.

Be well and do good,

Geo.

My cameras also use 8 AA batteries, but those batteries last for weeks and weeks, maybe even months.

"Recently had my car and truck plate removed from mailbox."

15 or so years ago I was using my old license plates for a similar reason....the unimproved country road at the bottom of a hill intersects my property then makes an S turn around it. County hadn't installed any kind of speed or directional warning as to the curve's presence. Texas license plates are reflective so I used to put them on the fence as a stop gap measure to keep weekend, 2-3 AM drivers out of my fence.....hopefully.

One day, maybe 10 years ago, (time passes fast) I get this bill from a Toll Road down in Austin, TX, some 250 miles from me accusing me of having a trailer on their road and wanting compensation. In short, somebody took it off my fence and it wound up down there. After a few calls to the right state agency, proving that I wasn't responsible for an expired plate, they backed off and dropped the charge. By then the county had upgraded the road which included all weather topping, widening, and proper plackarding the fact that there was a curve ahead and an large sign with an arrow pointing the correct direction.
