1965 Case 440 Uility Steering pump

I have been working on a 1965 Case 440 that has a hydrostatic steering system. the restoration is almost done but before running the engine I would like to know what type of fluid do I put in the power steering system. Is it Hydrants oil? Could it be Automatic transmission fluid. Looked threw my reprint shop Manuel and nothing was said on what type of fluid to use for this system. Yes I have to admit this is one of the first system like this I have had to work on. thanks.

It is a small volume self contained system. CNH Hi-Tran which is recommended in the tranny and hydraulics will work and give you a common fluid through-out the tractor. Anything from ATF/PS fluid, to motor oil to the taboo 303 in yellow jug will work fine. I use universal HTF in my 440 after fixing the leaky steering cylinders.

I think I do know about that stuff you are referring to. I had got some of it for my 1972 skid steer loader. Nice picture of that case. thanks for posting the picture .
