Ok what is the right way to wire up. Wire from the post goes to where
on the tractor? Where does spade 1 and 2 wire to? Thanks for you
help.

Type Bob M's 12 volt conversion wiring diagrams into a search box. Think I got the right Bob.

If you don't find the post, all that's left is to energize terminal #1 to excite the system to start charging. I like to use an oil pressure switch, or if using a key switch use the accessories terminal for gas engines. DON'T hook it with the ignition terminal, or engine won't shut off due to the alternator back feeding the distributor supply wire.

I would say he needs to push the #2 spade farther on the terminal. Using a clearance light, or a 20 ohm resistor, or a diode with the band toward the alternator will also keep it from running with the switch off. Jim

You can buy the harness plug that fits the terminals on top at any auto supply.

Holds the wires on, prevents them from shaking loose and shorting out, keeps them from getting reversed.

I buy these at the shop that rebuilds my starters and other stuff.
I just put the red wire on the back post of the alternator and the white wire to the ignition switch. plug it into the adapter with the diode then to the alternator.
