Generator instal update

A couple weeks ago I took the day off classes to help my electrician friend instal our new generator. We don?t have near the demand requirements we used to now so instead of buying a 400A transfer switch we bought a 200A switch and reduced the service down to 200A. To do that we switched the 400A fuses at the service disconnect for 200A fuses. The 200A ones are only half as big and not as long so we had to get adapter sleeves for them. It goes into first bus box as parallel but leaves in series to the switch. It?s 3/0 copper cable and to meet 400A requirements instead of running 600 kcmil it was wired with parallel runs of 3/0. For 200A ,series runs of 3/0 is plenty big in copper so leaving the bus box through the new transfer switch and to the old bus box that?s what we ran. The propane will be hooked up 3 weeks from tomorrow then we can give it a test run. It?s great to have it but I?ll be more than ok if it never gets used!

My son and I are waiting on shipment of generators and are prepping for the installation. He only needs a larger meter. I may have to have a new supply from the street AND larger meter. My current supply is a 5/8 line running 410 feet to the meter installed 35 years ago. 20 years ago when I divided my property I paid for a 3" main about 75 feet from the house to supply the lots. I'm waiting for the gas company engineering to tell me what I have to do.

That?s pretty much what we?re doing Bruce, for instance a red Robertson screw driver is also known as a #2 but fits a number 8,9or 10 screw lol. Black rubber cord about 5/8? thick is trade sized SJOO 14/3 SJ means severe junior ,junior refers to 300v instead of 600v,OO means the outer jacket is oil resistant and the wire coating is as well. 14 refers to the cable size,14 is good for up to 15A overcurrent protection (breaker) and 3 is the number of wires in the cable. Trades people call that type of cable Cab Tire lol. Most runs of wire the ground ,or bonding conductor is bare so it?s not counted even though there?s really 3 or more ,ex. 14/2 NMD 90 (non-metallic dry{dry location} rated for 90 degrees Celsius) has a black (hot or unidendified conductor) a white (neutral or identified conductor,it?s identified because it?s not supposed to normally supply current) and a bare ground ,equipment grounding or bonding conductor. Since 2 of the 3 are coated the bare one isn?t counted. But in the case of the 14/3 cab tire, the ground is coated with green rubber so it?s counted in that case. Cab tire makes great drop cords.

That's the update needed, quite a way to get a day off school..:), who taught
the screwdriver/punch and pliers/hammer part of the class..:)
The propane supply is from a 100lb tank(s)? or a skid mount? where you mention
the delay in connection time.
So far the weather is holding off, here also but i sense the need of there units
is coming all to soon.
I found some German schematic info while doing a purging the files(stuff), you might find useful,
will pass on the details later this week.

Haha it sure was, blinesman are great hammers lol. There?s 2 tanks going in, I think they?re 100 pound tanks? Going to cost $400 and change to fill them both. The delays are programmed right at the generator far as I know? If your around about 4 ish ill give you a call on my way home?

(quoted from post at 23:15:07 11/17/19) black (hot or unidendified conductor) a white (neutral or identified conductor,it?s identified because it?s not supposed to normally supply current) and a bare ground ,equipment grounding or bonding conductor.

Correction there. Both the neutral white and line black are load current carrying conductors. The neutral is bonded to earth to keep it's potential to ground down to a few volts at most.
Green/ground is not a load current carrying connector. It's one and only task is to hold everything to earth potential that is connected to it

afternoon, yes i am around, but i will be waiting for NSPC computer to call me,
for a inspection time tomorrow, and which inspector got the short straw..:)
i will call you about 6:30, things and supper should be settled down by then.
cheers
