Rich,

I actually have a hot water heater.

Well, it is a hot water heater as long as first heater is working, I have two in series.

When we were kids growing up, there were 10 of us, plus mom and dad, 2 cats and a dog. We also had two (hot) water heaters. And only 1 bathroom.

xactly hot mine are plumbed, too!

I have two hot water heaters.

The first one is the water heater in my house. If you touch it you will find it is hot. So it is technically a ?hot? water heater.

The second one is in my truck. The heater uses hot water to heat the cab. So technically that is a ?hot water? heater also.

If you are really in the aggravating mood we could discuss the difference in a bee wasp and hornet.

I have a tank beside my wood stove hooked up to the water line that goes into the electric hot water heater, water coming from it a lot of times is hotter than what
temp the electric heater is set on.Even in the Summer the temperature in the tank is raised about 20 degrees before going into the electric hot water heater saves some money I guess.

I used to have 2 60 gallon electric heaters but 10 years ago I bought a central boiler outdoor stove and have not turned on a heater since.

John,
60 years ago our Vet carried a 20 gallon mobile water heater that had a tube running through tank. Electric heater element went inside the tube, not in contact with water. Vet ran his exhaust through tube to heat the water he used to wash his hands.

Some places use the heat generated from coolers and freezers condensors to heat water. I think a one ton unit can produce 12 gallons 145 degree water per hour.

You bet it does. It might be incremental, but the warming of the water as it comes in in the summer (from room air) is pure air conditioning. Jim

We too have a hot water heater! Our master bath is 70 feet from the main water heater, so I put a 2 gallon heater in series in the crawl space under the bathroom, works great!

Russ, I did the same thing, except the water heater is near the master bath, and the kitchen is at the opposite end of the house.

I put a small water heater under the sink. It provides instant hot water for the sink, dishwasher, and the second bath just on the other side of the wall.

It is in series with the incoming hot water. Once the hot water gets there, it blends with what is in the secondary heater, never feel any difference once it's flowing.

Being its usually just the two of us I only have ONE 40 gallon HOT WATER HEATER aka WATER HEATER as over manyyyyyyy years I've seen and heard them called BOTH so call them whatever you like regardless if some call them one or the other TO EACH THEIR OWN... No right or wrong as far as I'm concerned to what you choose to call them lol

If ya reely wanna git teknikal it would be "the difference BETWEEN,not the difference in...................................................gtm

Looking at all the other comments I'll just add this....I have a hot water heater in my house. See my outdoor boiler heats the water so it's hot. Then it's pumped to my furnace where it heats the house. So it's a hot water heater.

Here?s what my manual calls it,

Steve, I thought about doing that to my parents mobile home in AZ, but then dad passed away and mom sold the place. Their water heater was towards the back end and the kitchen sink was right at the front. Mom wouldn't waste water in dry AZ so she used a tea kettle!

I suppose technically it is not a "hot" water heater. Technically it is a "cold" water heater. Yet, in 65 years I have never heard it called that.

Friend of mine in Dallas has hot water coils on the exhaust side of his heat pump to preheat the water for his house.

Sorry David I'll not fall for you trying insight me into doing some thing to get me banned from this sight but you doing so should get you banned this is a very low blow and you cannot get much lower. So I'll leave you alone if you leave me alone
