gas refrigerator

Many years ago I bought a used gas refrigerator & hooked it up to lp gas. Burner didn't burn right so I had
to adjust the air & maybe the gas too. I found out later that it was set up for natural gas. So I was able
to get the orifice for lp & re adjusted the burner so the flame was nice & blue with no red. But now it
gives off a bad odor if I try & use it. Would cleaning the chimney help?

Look the chimney, burner air mix, burner, every thing over for mud dobbers and mouse nests.

If the odor is coming inside there could be a rusted out heat exchanger or vent pipe.

Double danger, fire and CO2!

Absolutely! Also remove, disassemble and thoroughly clean the burner assembly. Over time dust, etc accumulates inside the burner and causes all sorts of flame issues.

f that's a Servel refrigerator take it outside and clean and blow out the entire burner and chumney on it I'm guessing it's sooted up. Gas pressure is crirical on them as is the turbulator behind the orifacxe.

I bought a new grill this spring, the side burner was a mess. High yellow flame and lots of soot on the pan. I took the burner assembly apart and cleaned out a spider web,it works great now.

If it is like an rv fridge it doesn't have freon in it. It will have an ammonia solution in it. If it does and you are getting an ammonia smell it will be toast.

Yes, I am thinking the over rich mixture was absorbed by the soot & now even though it is burning right , it gives off the bad odor. It is not leaking ammonia as it cools OK.
