John Deer 401 401c tractor split transmission/rear swap

I have a 1978 John Deere 401c with a bad transmission and I wanted to know if I could split the tractor and you use the back half 1973 John Deere 401 the transmission and rear would there be any issues and could it be done. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Do they have the same set up as far as pto/no pto ? and directional reversers /no reversers ?
If they are not set up the same then I will bet you have issues.

The 78 401c has a reverser the 73 401 doesn't. Can you swap out reverses or will I just have to eliminate it.

The free parts book on the JD web site will indicate which components must be mixed and matched.
No live pto on a reverser equipped tractor .
