I suppose so. I wouldn't created a way for fuel to splash out. Fire hazard, you know. Why not simply use a vented gas cap....seems easiest?

Instead of drilling a hole, or worrying about the existing vent, why not use a vented fuel cap.

I know it was alreadt suggested, but drilling a hole in the existing cap will work but may still allow fuel to slosh or spit out.
