4020 stearing

Hey guys My 1972 4020 was stearing on its own (slowly one direction when parked at an idle) I was told the stearing motor was likely the cause, I re-oringed the motor and had the pump rebuilt when I had the tractor apart. Now after about 50 hrs it started stearing normal to the right and the left is armstrong and turninig left the tractor bogs right down. I,m guessing the stearing valve, but has anyone had similar symtoms, and how big a job is it rebuild the stearing motor? Is the priority valve a possibility to cause such problems?
Thankyou in advance

Slide down a little on the Board to the DEERE-specific Board and ask for DEERE GURU Tim S.

He is the resident expert on those steering systems and offers a repair and return service, as setting the valves up properly is somewhat detailed, and has become a "lost art" at many DEERE dealerships unless they still have an older mechanic that's familiar with them on staff.

My neighbor had the same problem with his and we just replaced it with a new steering valve from Abilene Machine. He really likes it. Was easy to put in. But I am sure that Tim would fix yours if you want to keep it original.

I agree Tim S is the technician I'd recommend to repair & TEST your steering valve. I can't envision how the priority valve could be at fault for 1 direction steering as the steering control valve assembly is at fault

As others have said, good chance the steering valve is causing your problem and yes they are a very finicky thing to get set up just right.

Warning
If you have a speed ball on the steering wheel remove it until you get it fixed.

If the valve decides to suddenly do stupid things the steering wheel can unexpectedly spin on it's own, that ball will come around and whack you in the wrist so hard you will invent new words.
