Adirondack case guy

Well, I finished plowing the 37A field today, I think. It may get bigger.
Before I could start plowing today I was having to replace another broken landside on #1 bottom. I was going to have to improvise, and weld a broken one to get going this morning. I called down to my local CNH dealer and asked if they had any more new ones in stock. The parts man said that some had come in and the salesman was in-route to the farm with a box of new ones. You can't beat that!! Now if we could keep them from breaking prematurely. They just snap through the first or second bolt. The worst part is that I loose not only the tail of the landside, but the moldboard brace breaks off at the moldboard also. The salesman got to the farm and I had made a new moldboard brace, so in short order I had things ready to head to the field. I had to strike out a new backland and was a bit concerned if the tractor could get enough traction, but it just hunkered down, all 4 tires bit in and did the job. I would have been all done on this side hill field if I still had my trusty Case 931 hooked on. MFD and diff lock are great.

It is a steep tough pull up out of the NW corner of this field.

Cousin Kevin was down with the 1845 skidsteer pulling fence wire and brush along the fence line. I might end up plowing the hay field below this one making the 2 fields into one. It will be about 46A then.

I hope I didn't bore you with all the pics. --------------Loren

Thanks for the pics. At first I thought that you had gone crazy with a lime application, now I see it is that horrible stuff. ;^)

You sure have a lot more winter than I do, and we aren?t all that far away. Guess my side of the lake is still warmer. You could have sold every extra bale of hay 3 or 4 times here this year. Just isn?t any around, far too dry this summer. One the other hand grain corn is still running 30-35 % moisture .

Loren , A while back someone ask a question when someone posted some plowing pictures and i didnt get a chance to read and follow up on any of the post answers. The question was something like with all the technology now days is plowing actually beneficial. Why not just use a No-Till. Does the No-till way actually save anything Time,Money,Fuel, Tractor wear tear. Just curious

Man, I sue wish we had fields that were 30 acres and flat like yours are. Ours are big fields if they have 10 acres on a hillside. Course it don't take as long to finish them around here. Good looking plowing there Loren. Keith

Silly question, breaking landsides? Have you used a straight edge under plow shear to see if for some unknown reason bottom of landside is lower than the shear point?. That photo showing new landside looks like its tad farther down than the shear point. . Just observation from what i see.
Years ago no landsides were in stock for my ford oliver case 4x18 plow.i took some big truck leaf springs ,torched a hole for each bolt used hi content nickle rod and welded bolts in.they lasted longer than replacement landslides. I even made new coverboards out of the springs too

great dealer..

Coming from the deep south, and I have always wondered how you grow snow. Now I know. Maybe I can get some going down here. Now where do you buy the seed?

I plowed a Lot and replaced points and landslides. I do not think that I ever saw a Landslide break. Could you have a problem somewhere?

Nice pictures. But I have yet to understand why anyone would moldboard plow.

Yes the problem is called ROCKS and Limestone Ledges. The landsides seam to be brittle and these are 18" bottoms that have a brace from the moldboard that goes down to the tail of the landside. I often catch the outer edge of shear on a ledge forcing the plow sideways and that puts side pressure on the landside.-----------------Loren
