granpup runnin the 9610 shellin corn all of a sudden down on power and white smoke out the exhust, looks like we lost a turbo, most likely down for a day. give the dryers time to catch up

Always has to be something I guess. When I finished up with barley I could hear a bearing squealing in the bin while unloading so I need to find and fix that which should be a good time . And I need to replace a couple v belts

Cooling engines down before shut down will go a long way towards preserving turbos and the engine. Now if I could just get that done around here more.
I put a million miles on a turbo on a C-15 Cat. Just got to where it would not boost.

I don't know how your turbo failed but sometimes metal filings and junk can contaminate your engine oil through the lubrication lines. Might want to change the engine oil also.

Wouldn't a turbo failure be black smoke from lack of air? White smoke on diesels is cold cylinders, low compression, or leaking injectors, in my experience.

Yeah, the junkyards are full of turbo's that were running fine before something else went wrong with the car/truck/tractor/etc causing it to be scrapped.

Dropped a valve ,blown head gasket or lost a cylinder, as others have said turbo down black smoke,
