Cattle shed size

Thinking of building another cattle shed. This one would eliminate the West side opening I have in another barn and use that half of the barn for hay. I have been kicking around the idea for a 24 X 32 with 12 foot walls and 4 foot overhangs. The South side would be open and would be a 32 foot side. I want only one post in the opening to divide the barn in half. I only run a handful of beef cattle and a little over a dozen sheep. The Holstein steers are using the other barn. Does this sound like an adequate size to you all? I know the old saying, "you can never have a building too big", but in this case there may be.

It would be 6X6 post construction on concrete piers about 2 foot above grade.

It sounds like you have a good plan.
A courtyard style of building placement gives a bit of shelter
to prevailing winds. Also you are not overbuilding. depending on placement, if the time comes,
you could always add to either or both ends if needed
Blessings in your venture Kris

Not a bad size for your herd but here most of our strongest winds come from the west or south, I like to have the open end to the north, less chance of the wind getting under the roof and making a parachute out of it.
Wind may blow from a different direction in your area, may sure to anchor the post to the concrete somehow so that the wind can't lift it off the footer.

Most weather systems come from the northwest and that is the way the rain and snow come from. Now a tornado comes from the southwest. A northern opening shed would be filled with snow to the rafters.

I read 20 to 30 sq ft per cow for a shed with access to a lot.
Here our worst weather comes from the North so ours opens
to the South.
