Rustoleum makes a paint for plastic. I'll wait a few days to see if it holds up to oil.

Bought 2 cans. Yellow is close enough to Dewalt yellow.

I used carb cleaner to clean can before painting.

It will work (opinion) the carb cleaner will also give a solvent action to the polyethylene and assist in bonding. Not as good a powder coat LOL but Ok. Jim

Some of you guys sure know how to make mountains out of mole hills by trying to make everything idiot proof.

It is not like a tractor has a 20 ounce gas tank.
No need to store the fuel in cans.
Take the empty can to the store and fill it.
Bring it home and put it in the tractor.
Problem solved.

Are you sure Barney can read?
That's what Duct tape is for. I'll cover gasoline and write with sharpie on tape. What color sharpie will make Barney happy?

Please go to Walmart and buy #1 diesel. Then post color of the container, then give Barney a call.

I am hoping I'll only fill it at gas station.
Just trying to make all the YT Barneys happy.

I read that Country Mark sells best diesel. If that's true there's 2 county Mark's about 7 miles away. So I may buy it in cans.

Not sure where or if I can buy tax exempt fuel. I may not qualify if I drive tractor to gas station a half mile away.
George

The country mart down here has a pump with off road fuel. I have seen the city fill up there backhoe there and several little mowing tractors. I will second that country mark has good fuel that refined down in mt.vernon. We use between 5 to 10 thousand gallons a day at work and it's all from there.

As long as it does not have a license plate no tax fuel can be used in it.

If you want to get technical for Barny the fact that it is mostly red and says gasoline makes it illegal to haul diesel in.
You are essentially putting flammable marking on a combustible load.

How long you gonna tide this Barney YT stuff, I know I don?t have to read it but I think it?s getting a little musty?

John,
I only painted a small area to see if paint sticking to can if I spill diesel fuel on it. I want to Keep Barey from using his only bullet or locking me up with Bubba.
George

I wonder to. Report back in a few days after paint has time to cure. May leave it outside in the sun tomorrow.

SV.
I'm trying to reform and make everyone happy.
Now Look who is stirring the pot. LOL

George

In the state of Pa. The state can pull any of their trucks into any station and fill up with Off road fuel or no road tax fuel. The reason is that the state is exempt from paying road tax on fuel.So if they paid at the pump they would just get it back. That's the way it is here and don't know about anywhere else.

I am completely lost on this thread.

I realize it?s pointless to start with, but I don?t even get the pointlessness.

Barney was sure anyone caught putting diesel in a red can could possibly stop the entire orbit of the earth and also jeopardize all of man kind and that was the least that could have happened

I didn't know diesel had to be in yellow cans. I've been putting it in 5 gal. grease buckets. Haul gas in them too. Is there a law against that now?

omewhere, somehow, there is a law against any & everything you do, but there is the reality, that you have broken no law until you get caught!!!

GEO I have a 30 gal tank that was red and I used that paint on it about 5 years ago and it is sticking just fine. I have spilled some fuel on it with no problems. I was told to use power service additive in my tractor when they delivered it

Jessie,
That's a good law.
Another reality, there are many laws that
no one enforces.

But wait thar iz mow, blue plasstic cans got diezel on em.
I own red cans.my cans my fuel,my way.
My steel storage tanks are silver, seen many white, many red all containing what owner puts in em

Doubtful it will bond very well to the plastic. Every one of these that I marked with a metal tip paint marker the paint came off completely. Over the last few years, I replaced all of my fuel cans with Eagle safety cans. These are the ones with the funnel attached. Red for gasoline, yellow for diesel. Don't overfill and leave in the sun, every so often I have to clean the funnel with the air hose. I use a 3 step stepping stool to stand on when re-fueling my tractor and backhoe. I don't use enough fuel at this time to justify a storage tank and pump.

Now for the funny part, I did somehow fill a yellow can with gasoline once and that ended up in my diesel tractor, had to deal with that, no harm done but inconvenient. I am still not sure how that happened, but it did.

The bad part on fuel cans is it's not the customer that can get fined for improper cans, it's the station owner. The station owner can be fined for allowing fuel to be dispensed into unapproved containers. Same with red diesel into vehicles. Local station owner has a policy on red fuel, pump is off until staff sees what the fuel is being put into. Cans, bulk tanks, tractors, etc. ONLY. Station owner told me if the DOT (which patrols the highway by his station) checks a road vehicle and finds red fuel after leaving his station, it's a $10K fine.

Gee, I wonder how many gallons of gas was hauled in milk cans back in ther day. I know of several farmers that would haul their gas in them. That was when there were still metal grease cans and everything wasn't made of plastic. Keith

George my friend seriously consider using only Farm Bureau now Country Mark fuel called Ruby Red and their series III engine oil in what ever weight you chose. Possibly a small barrel ( 25 to 40 gallon filled at Country Mark agricultural plant. Barrel painted yellow of course. LOL
