Driving the 2n

It's good to see my dad driving his tractor. I was afraid it was just gonna sit in the shed unless we were there. He gets it out and drives around a couple times a week. Hard to tell in video but there are some fairly steep hills on their property. So far he is staying off them! Of course the whole video and driving thing...,.lol.

Worst thing on those were the brakes very seldom work good and you can't work both at the same time.

Old farmer's tale as far as I'm concerned. I formally owned and operated that tractor and it would stop on a dime, as well as my 41 9N. Now my 8n, that's another story.

I have had several N's through here. Hardly any had much for brakes. Too hard to get to to work on them is likely a large part of that.
Now you must have 2 left feet to be able push the clutch and the lh brake down at the same time.

I've had many many more JD 2 cyl through here and even with bad brakes they work good except for the model H they get oil on them and then not so good.

Good evening:
There should be a little piece on the pedals that you turn or set so when you step all the way down on the clutch, the brake on the left side is actuated. Sorry, I don't recall what the little piece looks like, I am not near the tractor right now.

That left brake pedal is NEVER to be userd for stopping, only for turn assisatance. The clutch pedal is a 2 stage pedal and part way down it released the clutch and when properly adjusted at point of releasing the clutch it starts to apply that brake. You just have to get used to the idea that you cannot start to enguage brake while clutch is still enguaged. Have a 44 2N Dad bought new in May of 44. Brakes were never the best on it but I think that is the kind of material the linings were made of. Think the good material was diverted to the war. I have a 41 9N I bought several years ago and those brakes just hit the pedal and you are sliding the wheels, using the clutch pedal. I am sure the linings were replaced before I got it. The 44 has the orignal linings never touched.
