What color? new or used?

I have two things on my bucket list.
One build a pole barn at north end of county.
Two a tractor with cab. I really have no use for a loader. I already have two.
Want something close size and hp of Jubilee.
Need an air conditioned 72 inch lawn mower and something to push snow in winter.
Saw this used tractor on machinerypete.
Many compact tractors don't have belly mowers.
Either I will need chains or different tires for pushing snow.

Opinions needed. Color, new or low hours used?
What do you have (post a link if possible) and why did you buy it?

I need to empty my bucket before I do something dangerous and kill myself! I'll be 71 one soon. Just poking fun at YT OSHA.

Why do you need a belly mower-- 3ph finishing mowers work good and you have the advantage to be able to back it up under trees to cut the grass there . You must have your reasons.

I see it has a Yanmar engine like our 2001 JD 4600, that is one of the best running and most reliable engines I have ever seen, we have 1160 hours on it and just love it!

My brother has two 3720's. He maintains three building sites, a 15 acre vineyard, and a winery with a huge lawn. He uses those tractors for all of it, and has had them for quite a few years already. Both have mower decks, but not the drive over kind. He also has a front end loader and a front mounted snow blower. Both of those will work on either tractor. I'm not aware that he's had too many problems with either of them.

I have a Farmall with 72 inch finish mower and Jubilee has a 72 inch rear mount. I like the job the belly mower does. I don't like the rear mount because when you make a 90 degree turn you leave grass behind. Also have to be careful when turning you don't swing the rear mower into something. When mowing unlevel ground the rear mount will dig in the higher and lower ground. The belly mower follows the contour better.

Bottom line, both are woods mowers. Rear mount has 4 wheels. Belly mower has 2 wheels in front and skids on each end.

dcarp,
The fat lady hasn't sang yet.
Saw a U tube on the L3560. If I needed a loader, the L3560 HST is very impressive.

Both terramites have HST and I love them for loader work.

I'm questioning if I really want a complicated HST like Kubota offers. I grew up on a dairy farm, lots of seat time on tractors with a clutch and gears. No cruse on the Kubota 3560, that would be extra. Same with mirrors, extra.

I like setting engine speed and selecting the gear to travel at a fixed speed when mowing.

I have a 48 inch John deere GT275, HST. Only use it for trim mowing. I have to keep my foot on motion peddle. I really don't think I would like mowing the entire yard with foot pushing down on peddle. The HST on JD is necessary when I attach the 30 inch tiller.

The Kubota HST would be necessary for anyone wanting a tiller and a loader.

My broker has annunitized my investments so a monthly check will show up checking account to cover any payments, if I decide not to pay cash.

This is going to be a hard decision to make. New I will get a warranty. Used is cheaper, no warranty.

I have only two dealers in town, JD and Kubota. So that makes it a little easier.

George, it's your money, so spend it as you see fit.

Yes, it my money and unlike most I don't have to ask anyone how I can spend it.

Just picking others brains. New vs used? Green vs Kubota orange.

My last 3 vehicles were new. I like the factory warranties. Used them on vechicles. The Kubota comes with a 6 year power train.

Geo,

I have a 2014 3720 for sale if you want a little more horsepower. Its virtually new with 82 hours on it. Cab, heat, air, radio, four wheel drive, quick-tatch loader and rear SCV. I love the tractor but sold the farm and no longer have use for it. Tom OConnor. 810-964-4850

I don't know if they offer a drive over deck on a 3 series jd but if they do I'd really consider it. I know Kubota does on smaller tractors but I've heard it's not to successful. It's your money but I would think about the loader as well. It will be handy to lift the deck up to clean it out and sharpen blades. I don't think one color is any better than the other. They just have different options.

Sticking with JD or Kubota since they are in your town. I'm not sure with you past issues to diesel smoke an older model would be as nice as a newer model ?
I was surprised that Kubota did not offer a belly mower for that new one. Didn't seem like a lot of HP either. Remember hydro zaps the avail. HP.

I need chains on Jubilee with just a few inches of
soft snow. No tire ballast. I have to listen for
blade coming in contact with rock. Hanging blade adds
weight to rear tires for traction.
I hope 4 wheel drive will work without chains.

Plowing snow is kind of like pushing dirt. If you want it to move it takes weight and power. I don't like little light tractors for plowing snow. I use an 806 with a front blade from a pickup. I have both lift and angle at my fingers. Works good and not much problem with pushing ability.

(quoted from post at 11:56:41 10/29/19) Think chains are cheaper than tires. George, it's your money, so spend it as you see fit.

Arlen, I suspect that he knows that it is his money, and I don't think that he is going to go and buy a tractor that you order him to. George is simply soliciting information to help him to make an informed decision.

As someone else said not much quality difference in either brand. I would look at cost, financing options, operator comfort, and ease of operation. If I were you at this point I would go new for the warranty.
