Farmall 806 diesel operating temp

What should the normal operating temp be for a farmall 806 diesel factory non turbo
This tractor runs around 180 -190 degrees Fahrenheit
Pump was retard back a little cause when I bought it they had timing off temp dropped with it, I understand how the temp will increase or decrease with the timing being different.

If that is the temp when under reasonable tillage load Fantastic. If it gets there just puttering around, and heats more if loaded, there are issues that need fixing. Plugged fins on radiator. Plugged core tubes, timing issues etc. Jim

2X what Janicholson said. Diesels tend to be actually difficult to get up to operating temp without a load, but for fuel efficiency you want them right up there when working.

I think it is fine. If worked in the summer on tillage, make sure the chaff is out of the radiator fins, and refresh the coolant if it ismore than years old. This is mainly to provide corrosion resistance and stabilizers that break down. Jim

Have you checked it with a thermometer or just off the gauge in the dash 180 isn?t hot but about perfect

Mine hardly moves the needle along with our 856. The 1466 will move a bit while doing heavy work. Not sure what the actual degrees are.

Ford 3910, Not an 806 but the theory is identical: Just bought the used tractor and first thing I did was to install a 188* thermostat. Puts the temp right at the interface of the white and red sections of the dial when warmed up and it stays there when working. I selected that temp when replacing as part of the cooling system new owner servicing for the reason stated herein by others. What I found interesting-disapponting was that the temp where you want to work is right on the red line on this Ford.....never checked-paid attention to that fact before on other tractors.
