Truck PTO shaft rotation direction

I have a friend who is trying to put a dump body on a 48 Studebaker maybe 1 ton truck. It is the Studebaker 6 cylinder and a 4 sp transmission. It came with a pto and he
has hooked it up to a dump body but the pump rotation is wrong. Does anyone know about pto rotation and ways of changing it. I know some pumps have two shafts so you can
use which ever one matches the pto rotation but this pump only has one input shaft.

Is he sure he has the inlet and outlet hose hooked up right?? If the hoses Are backwards it will act like the PTO is not turning the right way

O. K. You can have 2 choices. It depends on the make and model of the transmission and the make and model of the PTO. Send me an email. I used or teach a PTO class but I need that information.

Most are engine rotation. From input shaft, to countershaft is one reversal, then from countershaft to PTO is another. I'm sure there are options, but it may take a hard to find Reversing PTO unit, or a intermediate box to reverse it. Jim

Some pumps can be reversed. You simply take the reversible pump apart, swap the body of the pump around and reassemble.

Yes, with the discharge line from the pump disconnected if the pump is turned by hand in the opposite way from which it is being powered it will pump oil, the other way it sucks in.

Providing the pump is good and is running the wrong way. You could turn the pump end for end . That would reverse it. This will only work if A" there is room for the pump and tank to fit or B: the pump is separate from the tank.

That would mean mounting the pump in front of the transmission to reverse it, then long hoses or lines to the cylinder. And I don't know if the transmission PTO has a shaft going towards the front too or if it can be turned around.

Thanks for the replies so far. I am thinking the best way unless he can find a reversing box would be to find a pump with two input shafts and adapt the lines to it.

On some pump you can reverse the center body to deal with rotation,,I think it was on the Commercial Shearing pumps,,or maybe the Vickers...
