Delco 3 wire alternator

A "194" or equivalent indicator lamp or a 10 Ohm, 10 Watt resistor can be used instead of the diode. All three options work equally well.

I like using an idiot light which tells me when alternator is charging. I apply 12v to the second wire via the ignition because my new alternator had a small paracitic drain if I didn't switch the power off.

Napa even had the plug for the alternator so it was east to hook up and no more spade terminals that won?t stay on .

The Number two "sense" terminal is often connected to the BATT. terminal at the back of the alternator. This is the simplest connection and the least desirable since it is measuring the alternator output and not the voltage at the load connections.

I run both terminals through switch so when tractor is off all power is removed from both wires.

A small drain won't hurt if you run tractor every day. however tractor may not get used much in winter. Cold and a drained battery is not good.
