I use my Skag for mowing, but have a LX280 for sweeping, aerating and hauling things around the yard.

What would be a step up from that in size?

I am looking for 5-10 year old.

You need to go to the JD 500 series to get a step up on what you have. If you would consider a little older than 5-10 years old I would look at a JD GX 345. They have power steering and the later models have Diff lock. They are a really nice mower that is high quality. The JD X535 replaced the JD GX 345. They are a good mower too but I think the deck is lighter than the GX 345.

If the X535 is too much of a jump price wise then a JD X500 is a little better than your JD LX 280 and would be cheaper than a JD X535. Just get a later model as the early JD X500 mowers only used a single mower drive belt on the deck. What I mean is one belt goes form the motor back to the deck and then around all the blade pulleys. More idlers and twists in the belt. The later ones went back to the older design where one belt goes back to the deck and then there is a separate belt that goes around all the blade drive pulleys.

Any other questions just shot me an email.

David,
My back doesn't like bouncing, so I attached my Ohio steel 52 inch sweeper to my mower.
Sweeper holds about 26 cubic feet. The speed of sweeper

Is faster than most. Impressed with design of sweeper brush.
