"Dinkum Digger" made by Whitlock here in England to an
Australian design. I have a friend with an original Aussie
"Dinkum" on the back of an IH AWD6.

This one is mounted on a Power Major. The company was taken
over by HyMac in the late 1960's.

Thanks Major man that is my friends Dinkum Digger at the Newark Vintage Tractor Show last year along with other Fordson and Ford convertions. This years N.V.T.S. will be held on the 9th and 10th of November and we have got over 900 entries. I am one of three people who orginise this show and I am featureing IH, CASE & DAVID BROWNS and I have over 200 entries so far. MJ

OK, OK...got the tractor ID'd. But that "is" a strange design for backhoe. Do either of you know how well that setup worked?

It's definitely not mainstream on this side of the big mudhole. *lol*

I cannot remember exactly when Whitlock went out of business but it must have been in the late 60's to early 70's. I know the loader and backhoe side was taken over by HyMac, I had customers who had them and I used a second hand one we had taken in against a JCB, to fill the canal at the back of our Elm Road premises in Wisbech. They worked well although my Aussie friend is not impressed with his and wants me to bring it home next time in my suitcase. He was quite impressed when I recognised it in the back of his shed.
The HyMac had a weakness at the top of the boom on the pivot for the dipper arm, most you saw were welded up but I do not remember that problem with the "Dinkum".
Over here it was a choice between the Whitlock and the JCB for all the local builders.
Whitlock also built trailers and industrial dump trailers and made many parts for the Webb 520 and 360 loaders for Ernest A. Webb, Exning, Newmarket.

With the boom cylinder arranged like that,
it would have less power down and probably
wouldn't be able too lift the tractor up. A
backwards setup.
