Old Massey On The Job

I finally got in 3 days in the combine as the canola swaths had dried down to near 10% moisture. Then it turned damp today. Just light misting rain. The kind that seems like nothing but eventually soaks through your clothes on an open tractor. Fields still so wet that even this light mist makes the surface mud. But I figured I'd try and haul a load of oat bales home anyway. The old Massey handled the mud just fine. These bales came from the field I was trying to swath in the mud a week ago. Video of some of the swathing here.

Swathing Oats

(quoted from post at 18:12:09 10/14/19) I love your videos, 2000 miles north sure makes a difference in the way things are done.
Glad you find the videos interesting. I need to spend a little more time editing but very often its a spur of the moment decision to shoot video and I might not even have my Gopro camera with me. Like today. I ended up shooting video with the I Phone. Trying to drive a load of bales through the mud with one hand on the phone while shifting gears. Talk about distracted driving!

I find our weather frustrating enough, I think the wide range of extremes you get would drive me either crazy or a job in town. Before the hail storm, it looked like a very nice crop of oats. My mother always said Saskatchewan was the land of , next year. Best of luck

Looks like a load and a half for your trailer.

I baled a mature oat crop last year and 5 x 6 bales scaled an average of 1850 lbs each.

This year I rolled them out at 5 x 5 1/2, my old Louisville struggled with 10 loaded on back.

This trailer is made from an old 46 Ford two ton truck and handles 11 bales easy. Out on the roads in high gear the old Massey will smoke on every little hill. My bales are not as big as some. The NH 847 makes a smaller bale that suits my operation fine. I'll post a separate link to the bale hauling video.
