Look on the left of the page under research and info then serial number and then JD and then model A and figure out where the serial number falls into place. I'll tell you how to figure it out but I'll not do it for you. I do it this way to teach you how to fish and feed your self for life

I could tell from the photo what kind it was.
Your tractor is a 1949. Looks like a nice one!

What I meant to say is I could tell from the photo [i:ee028f7bb7][b:ee028f7bb7]of the tag[/b:ee028f7bb7][/i:ee028f7bb7] what kind it was!
PITA that we can't edit our posts!!

THANK YOU... NOT SURE WHAT TO DO WITH IT IF I SHOULD RESTORE IT OR WHAT IT RUNS FINE. JUST NEED LITTLE BIT OF WORK ....

Many folks now days prefer the original patina look. But it's your tractor--do it however you want. There are no wrong answers to that question. Personal preference, time and $$ are usually factors to consider.

(also as an FYI---typing in all caps makes it look as though you are shouting at us. Not a big deal, but some guys here don't like that.)

The tires look larger than "normal" for an "A" John Deere. Was it used in the tractor pulling hobby? Is it rear exhaust or no muffler? Hope it's a soft cushion the lady is sitting on.

Tires are over sized not sure why my dad did that. Only things it pulled was plows, and disc .It does need a stack. This tractor has been sitting in my dads barn for years he, used it to make his garden. He had it for 30 or 40 yrs. it sat for the last 10 or so yrs untill he Died last yr. Now I have it in my garage as you can tell my 11yr old loves it.....

That's great having your dad's tractor and having your daughter interested.
I like them original and it looks very straight.

Nice tractor, glad to see you're keeping it. Those tires look like 14.9s, really more tire than it needs. My father in law put that size on his not long before he passed on. I still use the tractor. After looking at my picture they may be 15.5s.

Bloomy,

As nice and straight as the sheet metal and paint condition is I would never repaint it. Leave it as is or
use a good cleaner/wax on it.

Would you be interested in selling those front wheel weights?

Pete

Your dad picked those tires up used because they were a deal. Go ahead and paint it if you are inclined to. That paint is not original.

If it runs good , just run what you brung.
No need for restoration. Just appreciate
the old girl for what she is..

If you dont mind me asking what do you think those wheel weights are worth??? The number on them is B2016R Alot of people are asking to buy them.

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly IS that being used for the exhaust?

Could it be a device that allows exhaust to exit, but keeps rain out?
