While casually perusing Craigslist looking at backhoes I noticed there were a few nice looking cat backhoes that seemed to be priced significantly less than Ford, Case and John Deere machines. I don't know much about backhoes and I wondered is there some reason. Are cat backhoes are less desirable for some reason?

Shoot us a link so we can look at one of them and see what is going on. Usually the Cat hoes bring more as they are higher new. I have ran JD, Ford, Case, Cat, and JCBs. I did not really think the Cat was much better then the others. I would not pay more for one myself. For the value I always thought the Ford hoes where a good buy for the part time user owners. They usually are the cheapest ones.

The last TBL I bought for the city before I retired was a Cat. It was like pulling teeth to get them to up the budget to buy it. It was a huge upgrade over the Ford and Cases we were buying. They may be more expensive to work on, but in the 20 years they've owned it, all it has had done to it is; oil, filters, tires and one alternator. Compared to the engine(Ford), hydraulic pump(ford) and transmission(Ford and Case) in the first 20 years we owned them, the extra cost has more than paid for itself.

I will only say this go and demo a few different brands and see what fits You and your needs,, there is a reason Cat brings less at resale in TLB's and there is a reason Case has been the #1 selling TLB since 1956 and still holds the #1 resale/trade in value and New sales today,, CAT makes Great equipment,, but not the best TLB,, to me Balance, Power Speed and Control is what I want,,,, NH works well when they are not broke down which they seem to have issues with these days,, older Ford units were decent enough units,, Deere machine built in the last 15 plus years are Good machines also, for my type of needs and operation,
