I have a JD 2009 2045D that recently developed a 3-point lift problem that is costing $3800 and 1.5 months to fix. I have neither the knowledge 0f skill or shop to undertake this repair myself. The 3-point won't descend except over time by gravity. I think I need to trade this unit in and get a more reliable tractor. Does anyone know what the most reliable medium size general purpose tractor might be in the 40-50HP range?

When I see a tractor on mentioned on here that I'm not familiar with I usually google it and go to TractorData, and learn all about it, but I see nothing for your 2045. Does it have another number?

Could you double check your model number as I can not find where JD ever made a 2045D tractor.

In general any of the Mexican and Indian built JD tractors should be avoided. They are not near the quality of the US and European built tractors. They are JDs attempt to get some of the "VALUE" base customer market. They see companies like Mahindra selling a lot of cheap simple tractors. JD wants some of the market. JD does not do cheap well.

As for the last part. The most reliable 40-50 HP 2wd tractor that I can think of would be the Ford 3600 or 3620. Dead reliable and pretty simple. I see 1500 hour Ford 3610s sell in the $8500-9500 range. I think this is not a bad price for that tractor.

I should mention that JD 5210s are pretty good too. I have one with 3000 hours on it that has been a good tractor. I am just not really happy with JD as a company right now. LOL

Don?t know anything about that model, but most of the small Jd tractors have a rate of decent valve usually below the seat that controls the drop speed of the 3pt arms. If it?s turned to far the arms won?t drop.

Does it have a rate of drop adjustment for the 3pt. My old 1520 was very slow at lowering until I opened that up.

The 5045 has an EXTREMELY simple (and usually reliable) 3-point hitch mechanism. Not much there to require a month and a half to fix!

It would be interesting to hear "The Rest of the Story" as to what went on with yours!
