Hay rake pto shaft will not release after locking collar releasing and shaft moving 1/4" inch?

Shaft on the tractor probably just twisted a bit or the pto shaft female side the internal splines are distorted a bit

I don't see how a hay rake could exert enough pressure to distort splines?
Just wondering if bearings aren't releasing?

Fill in the blanks. What brand mower what tractor etc. How long has it been on the tractor?? When put on did you grease the shaft before putting it on. ETC. Seen more then one PTO shaft be hard to get off due to being on for a long time and being humid. Or the release it self not being twisted or pushed all the way

So are you saying it has been on the tractor for 6 years or are you trying to put it on etc.
