Ford 1920 piston seal

Can somebody please tell me how in the world you install a Teflon piston seal on the lift piston of a ford 1920 tractor? This thing is giving me fits! The Ford dealership that sold me the seal said that they install them with 2 screwdrivers. I don't want to try that because it doesn't sound right. This seal will have to stretch about a 1/2". Is they're a tool for this? Thanks.

Heat it in boiling water, grab with gloves, and have a couple of small, smooth rods at hand to roll/massage it into place.

what bob said.

I then carefully use a piston ring compressor to compress it back, you can leave the compressor on for awhile until it relaxes.

Maybe this is what the dealership meant by using 2 screwdrivers to get it on. They didn't say anything about heating it up in boiling water. I thought about it but I wasn't going to try it till somebody else said it was okay. I appreciate you getting back with this information! Thanks!

I ran into similar problem with Kioti loader. I took it to new Holland dealer and they boiled in water. I figured if I ruined one , I buy, if they ruin, they buy. They did it and worked fine. Seal for one cylinder $100+

I paid $47.58 from the dealer and if I'd gotten it online it was $36.00. I believe in supporting my local dealership but sometimes I wonder if they are just too high.

A good way to install the piston seal is to warm it in oil so it expands and softens it so is easy to stretch them onto/over the piston. After you get it on, let it cool to room temperature. Then an easy way to get the piston and seals into the cylinder bore is to get an aerosol can of chewing gum remover for carpet. Spray the seal with it good and let it shrink the seal so it will slide in the bore easy.

I never thought about making it shrink. I just figured it was so tight that it would naturally shrink back to it's original size. Thanks for the tips!
