Scammers are stepping up their game

Just got a spam voicemail from someone claiming to be from "Heavy Haulers Dot Com" making vague references to some "heavy load" that they hauled for me previously.

I have neither heard of, nor done business with, this company.

Normally you'd expect to hear a heavy foreign accent. Nope. This guy sounded like a big burly corn fed fella from Iowa.

So either they have some good voice actors or they're hiring Americans to record messages to make their scams sound more legitimate.

I just got a call yesterday from some older fellow
that was scared to death about his social security
number being suspended he was scared to death
over it how he got my number I don?t know unless it
was one of you clowns on here ? It?s total bs that
these guys get away with doing this

Most likely the scammers were spoofing YOUR phone number to make their calls at that time. So the old fella's caller ID showed YOUR number when his phone rang. He simply called back to the number that called him. Instead of getting the scammers, he got you.

They get away with it, because they can't be caught. First off most of it is coming from foreign countries that really don't care about, and may even encourage, scamming "the fat, dumb Americans." Second off they can carry all the equipment needed to run these scams with one hand, so they can pop up and disappear in mere minutes.

I just saw an announcement on TV warning about scammers asking for Medicare information.

Saying they are calling from a Drs office, need your Medicare number to verify coverage.

Don't talk to them!

I always oblige, ask if they have a pencil, and start right in.... 1 345 675 89 34 6678 335 65 756333 366 77 334677 567888 Still there? Good! 39956 56 335 78 ?.. click!

We've been getting quite a few spoofed calls from our own 564 exchange. Couple of weeks ago it was our number on caller ID with my name as it's listed in the phone book. Wife picked up, nothing.

I dont know how many times my phone rang yesterday. I leave the ringer off and dont even bother answering. I blame it on Arlen cuz I left him a message the day before.

We don't answer the phone if we do not recognize the number or the name. One of my favorites was a
caller wanting to extend the warranty on my car, so I answered. I said which car? Person asked what car
do you have? I said look, I have 20 cars in my fleet, you tell me which one you are calling
about...click.

They were supposed to come get me years ago.For unpaid traffic fines. Thinking of filing a complaint. They are taking to long and I have things to do

😂😂😂. I don?t let em bother me either like I say my ssn been involved in criminal activity and suspended since April . Just makes me mad when then con the weak or the elderly they?ve got my mom a time or two luckily she couldn?t get them the right information

Call the local sheriff. See what he can do. These problems are not going to be fixed at the local or state level. So if you hate the feds, and don't want the feds involved.....live with it.

One of the best things I ever did was get rid of my landline phone and all the "Scammers". I then set up a Google Voice account at no extra
cost through my computer, works great, and no more Scammers or harassing phone calls!

Around here we or I get the ones when i say hello they ask for Say dennis i say sorry wrong number then they say well maybe you can help
then. Then they start on some spill about fire fighters association. Now i just answer to cuss folks out. I just start cussing till they hang
up. Some numbers have actually stopped calling

I figured that somehow the scammers got my
number to ring and look like it was me calling . Most
of the time when I try calling one back the number
is already disconnected

My point is that our society has changed, but many of our law enforcement concepts have not. The poor sheriff can not help with internet scams or credit card fraud and the folks mired in a 1975 law enforcement model are making things tough on everyone.

My brother plays a little game, he won't cuss at them but pushes them until they cuss at him. He claims the practice has made him much more effective at negotiating and dealing with problem employees as it teaches you how to remain calm while pushing someone else's buttons. I mean what the heck a person has to have a hobby right?

I've mentioned this in other threads, and I'll add it here in case it helps someone.
My phone company (Armstong Telephone) offers a service that requires a caller to hit another number before they can be connected to me. This has eliminated all scam calls on my home phone. Apparently, the computers that do the automatic dialing can't handle the extra number. It's been that way for a few years now, and I couldn't be happier.

Why is that not used more widely? If a guy knocked on your door 5 times a day and night, we would call the cops to investigate for disturbing the peace. But since it is a phone call we do not force our phone company to be the police for robo calls. They have the data, but do not want to spend the money to control this plague. The problem is the citizens, we do not force our representatives to fix this constant daily disturbing the peace. Times change folks...wake up!

I play a similar game. Sometimes ask them their full name, then say "Oh sorry, it was your mom arrested for prostitution. That must be so tough for you." The guys from India usually get livid at that. If it's an American voice I ask whether they have a cell phone. If they say yes I ask if they enjoy scam calls. Some of them actually complain!! Then I unload.
