I got a neighbor with a 446,gas,the fuel pump quit sitting in the machine shed over winter! The fuel pump wasn't pump any fuel up to carb, so tried a new mechanical fuel pump,it didn't feel right when i was putting in the bolts, he even tried it, so i jumped in turned it over, he was standing there, heard a big snap, and then the fuel pump was loose,so we retightned it, no fuel yet. took it off and looked in there,no eccentric off the cam, it's not visabile, when the motor is turning over, the plunger has no mark on it, what so ever! what do u think happened?? what happened to the eccentric?

Maybe broke the bolt that holds it and the camshaft sprocket or gear in place. If it did break off and there is no mark on the fuel pump arm that would be quite odd. I have never had one of those engine open but I would be surprised if IH didn?t use at least a 7/16 if not a 1/2 in. bolt in there most every part of their gas engines were over built compared to other brands. I have NO IDEA if this is a correct part for the engine you are working on, see link. Word of caution is if it is not in place you better know for sure that it has room in there to drop in the pan. If not you may chew up or break other stuff in there if you run it that way. Plus if the bolt broke it holds the cam sprocket or gear in place. Maybe you should post this on the Red Power forum seems to be some IH truck folks in the know there.
Cam eccentric pic maybe?

A 446,is that an in line 6? Most,if not all of those Loadstars where V8's starting with the 345,392,404,549 with one in between the 404 and the 549. Wasn't aware that IH used an inline in the Loadstar series.

So a 446 is the gas V8 you are talking about between the 404 and 549. I?m no expert, but before I answered I used Google to confirm that is correct. The internet is never wrong. Lol
