Gravity vrs. Electric grain bin spreader question

Considering buying a gravity flow grain bin spreader instead of mechanical spread for a 42 diameter grain bin . Would like to know from personal experience, how well this will work for that size grain bin.My concern is not doing a good even spread . Thanks for your response!

Octopus style works as well as any I have seen. Most critical part for getting any of them to work is to get the grain to fall in the center.

Problem with octopus style, that I have heard from others,is that they take up too much of the roof storage space that can?t be used . The one I am considering is the gravity spinner type. I would like to know from others who have this type of spreader. Thanks very much for your input!

We used to use a gravity spreader, it would leave grain in a windrow around the bin in about 3-5 feet from the edge, till it built up to reach the side. Left a dip in the middle when full and took to much roof space. We now just put the auger in the bin and fill.

I had one years ago when we used a six inch auger, It worked well. When we updated to an eight inch auger it did not work very well. They are dependent on the flow of grain and it has to be centered in the chute. One rented bin has one but we do not use it as it will not keep up with a 13 inch auger.

We have 10? Westfield that we?ll be filling bin with into a spreadall gravity spin spreader. I think that I will probably stick with a electric spreader. My concern is that it?s not gonna do the job!

Probably should have been more specific.

This is the type I was referring to. As to space it takes, just bury it in the grain at the top.
