Any one ever used stabil that may have gone past the day you open the bottle? Just noticed the good for 2 years from date of opening. Ready to put the Harley away for the season. What could it hurt to use it?

Stabil does go bad, hence the date requirement.
And it IS something to pay attention too.

I believe last a little longer than the 2 years.
Had some here one time that was several years old
And it was thick and gooey.

If it looks good your probably alright.

I just went through this today checking my supply and treating
Some fuel systems.

I'm slowly switching to StarTron Enzyme treatment after Years
Of Stabil, and Sea Foam.

Gotta do the same with Jo?s Miata. Might get the bike out again for the local Toy?s for Tot?s ride. Headed to CO to winterize my J/D 5203 and shut down that property for the season. Let It Snow. Haha!!

I'm a believer in using Stabil. I use it all year long. I have a 1950 Super A Farmall that had set all winter a year ago and I even expected the battery to be low. As I was up in the barn in the spring, I thought I would see if the battery would turn it over, I pulled the ignition switch out and bumped the starter and that engine came to life as if I had just shut it down. This tractor is unbelievable the way it starts all the time.

I've had poor luck with Stabil. I've had great luck with Ethanol Shield and particularly, Mechanic-In-A-Bottle...

Not a fan of Stabil and certainly would not use it past the expiration date.

Much better to drain ALL gasoline from systems in storage.

Thanks for the advise. Gotta go into town tomorrow so I will grab some new juice to finish my shut down. Will look for some of the brands mentioned. Thanks.

You could get rust inside of tank if you empty it. Fill the tank and use the new Stabil 360. Then drain the carb.

run it dry and then put in GOOD gas no corn run it park it and your good to go been doing that to my 95 wing never any problems 172 thousand miles all is good

fill up with premium non ethanol gas and your worries are over! much less hassle and cost of stabil!

I've never used Stabil. Never felt any need to. Only gasoline that has gone bad for me was when it sat for several years. Sitting for 3 to 4 months over winter has never been an issue.

Stabil claims it will keep fuel fresh for 24 months so in theory if you were to add it to your tank a day short of 2 years after opening it you would still get 24 months of protection out of it.
Not likely that it changes much between 24 and 25 months after opening it.

With that said son and I pulled out my old Town car last weekend.
It had not been started in 11 years, it sat outside with a 1/4 tank of fuel without any kind of snake oil added to it.
It fired right up and I drove it to his place, it ran just fine on what was in the tank.

Probable the octane level in the fuel dropped after all that time but not enough that the computer couldn't adjust for it.

Thanks again for the replies, definitely lovers and haters of Stabil. I run only 91 octane in both vehicles so I may leave it at that.

(quoted from post at 15:51:38 10/09/19) How does one know when he opened the bottle.
I like to date things with a sharpie in those situations. Actually, I date a lot of things when opened or installed: whole house water filters, paper towels, toilet paper, small engine oil filters, medicines, etc.

I believe one reason for differing opinions on additives and ethanol is attributed to loacation and weather conditions. Warm-cool cycles cause the tank inhale and exhale air on every cycle. If humidity is low not much happen's,humid conditions ruins fuel and can also rust tank. I carry spare tires for trailers and rarly use one. I carry insurance but rarly use it. Average humidity in central Tx ranges from 75% in Houston to 66% in Dallas. Annual average 80f temperature normally rise and fall 20f in 12 hours and often 25F. I treat gas and still have problems. I'd hate to think what might happen if I didn't. Do any of you that never treat and don't have trouble live with annual average 80f and 70% ?

My stuff sits a lot. ALL my repair issues stem from occasional use. 41 gasoline motors on my stuff. I put Stabil in everything but my breakfast cereal . I?m about to start marking dates that gas was last added and engine was last run on every single engine. Only two diesels in the ?fleet?. If I could use all the stuff regularly , I doubt I would need it though.
