More Matbro's a six cylinder one and a four cylinder one, beefed up linkage on the six. They also made a bigger version from the later "X" Series with a 2703 Ford Industrial six cylinder power unit.

Thanks for the pictures Majorman, these photos were taken at Newark showground and the both belong to serious Ford and Fordson collectors. Was there any connection between the Mathew brothers who built the Matbro tractors and Northrop four wheel drive tractors. MJ

Think they were both designed by the same man who moved around companies at that time. I have worked on a Northrop, they had a structural weakness in that they used the tombstone of the Ford 5000 asone of the mounting points for the front axle and steering. Our customer's one was always breaking the tombstone and eventually the tractor was moved on.

Northrup 5004

I was wrong about the link between the two being the David Brown, he worked on the Northrup but not the Matbro. Chaseside, the loader and dumper company owned Northrup which eventually ended up with JCB. Matbro was owned by the Mathews Brothers and was merged with Bray and then Muir Hill.

More information, Hewco was a New Zealand Company from Huntley. They made a variety of industrial equipment, some licenced from Malcolm Moore of Australia. Their most famous machine was the twin Fordson Super Major powered scraper. I have seen a couple of these on my Australia trips and even had a friend over there who owned one.
