Don't you just get a warm and fuzzy fealing when they had you crawl under your desk or they started putting us in the internal halways in front of the lockers. The only thing I can think of that might be even close is when you midwest folks have a tornado warning. As a kid, and if a nuke was dropped, in your 1963 mind, did you really have any idea what would have happened?

Didn't see or hear much of that where I lived but we moved out of Alabama back in 1956 shorty after I was born and I think my dad saw the writing on the wall so to speak and we moved north and west. North and west to Missouri then to MN then down to Kansas all before for I was 4 or 5

I don't recall doing duck and cover drills but in K and 1st grade I remember the class lining up in the hall while the school nurse checked every kid for head lice.

We all had to march to the bathrooms sit on the floor with our heads between our knees. Bathrooms were used because they were small internal rooms made of cement block.

I remeber fire drills and tornado drills where we went to the inside hall walls. Never thought about what would happen probably was not even on my mind at 5-6 years old.

Don't remember or understand that picture, fire drills but never heard of duck and cover. I am 76 years old. And from Ohio. In an area that was considered high risk fo an attack.

We did the duck and cover drills when I was in school in 1963. It seems silly looking back, we were only a short distance from the Pentagon and would probably have been crispy if the Russians bombed DC.
