Interstate batterys

I got two tractors that needs batteries both died about the same time wont even take charge the one has a interstate battery in it the other is a napa battery which one should I go with Rick

which ever one u go with buy a cheap battery maintainer from harbor freight and use it all winter long!

You'll probably get a lot of replies telling you that there are very few actual battery manufacturers left and most brands are simply tagged with a different labels from the same factory. I have no idea how you could track that or sort through the ratings to get one that is best. Perhaps some Googling will clear some of the stuff up.

I buy most of my batteries from Walmart. They sell out frequently, so the inventory is always fresh, and the store is 5 miles from my house. The only store that's closer is Advance, and their batteries didn't last very long in my truck, so I'm not buying there anymore.

That's a popular internet tale, but it's not true.
There ARE only three manufacturers, but that doesn't mean all batteries are the same. I have no idea why people think that. Each battery manufacturer makes particular model batteries based on the specs that are specified by the customer. The very best batteries to the very worst batteries are all made in the same few plants. But just because they're made in the same plant doesn't mean they're the same battery.

I?ve been buying mine at rural king been having better luck then I?ve had with others and there way cheaper

Like you say so what if they are made by the same company, that doesn't mean quality can't be different.Go to any store that sells batteries all the same brand but a lot of difference
in the different batteries they sell.

before you trash your batteries see if there are some water caps under the label on top of your battery. I have found out that on a lot of batteries there are small water caps but they are hidden under the label. if you have then do a search on the net to restore batteries. I have two batteries that died and when I found those caps and added water and put them on a battery maintainer that charges up slowly there still going strong on my tractors. those little battery maintainers are worth the money for sure with the price of batteries. I will never buy a Walmart battery. sams club maybe. napa or interstate are okay. good luck.

I?ve had very good luck with the Value Power batteries from Walmart. Little to no warranty on them, but about $50. Limited choice in sizes though.

We have an Excide warehouse close by. Used to buy their new store returns from them for $30 but found they just didn't last. They had box's of different brand labels that they slapped on the batteries depending on who was getting that particular shipment. Was at a trucking warehouse one time and they had a pallet of new batteries setting there. Got to talking to a mechanic and he told how when they came in the salesman would ask what brand they wanted and would put that label on them.

MJMJ ...... I think you're reading between my lines a bit too much. I don't believe that I said all batteries were the same,
that's what you said that I said (ha) !!! Of course there are different battery ratings and qualities. I didn't refer at all
to battery ratings or quality, I just referred to brand names and how many factories were actually producing batteries. I
stand by my original post.

Yep ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
When I was a heavy equipment field mechanic we got our batteries from a Exide warehouse. All the new batteries didn't have any labels on them, they would pick the group size battery you wanted, put it on a table that had 10 different brand decals, then slap the decal of the brand you bought. A Exide decal made the battery cost twice as much compared to one with a Reliable decal on it (they were awful proud of some of those decal$$$). I get my batteries from Walmart that have the 3 year free replacement, they are made by Johnson Controls.

Don't know if you have an Orscheln's in your area but I buy there utility batteries which are around $65 and have had good luck out of them

I have been buying the Walmart $50 batteries for a couple of years and find they are a good deal. So far only one went bad and it was under warranty so got a free one. Oldest is 3 years old.

"they (WalMart batteries) are made by Johnson Controls."

Depends on what part of the country you live in. If the Johnson Controls factory is too far away, it could be a different brand, including some from half way around the world.
If your store sells Johnson Controls batteries, good for you.

If I buy new for my vehicles, I buy Interstate since I can get a deal on them through the dealer at work. For the older tractors that just require 1 battery, and the farm pickups, I just go buy a good used one from the local salvage yard. $35 with a year free replacement if it goes bad. Most have no problem getting a few years out of.

There is only a few different companies that make batteries which they make the different brands at one place. It's kind of pot luck getting a good battery anywhere any brand. I used to stay away from walmart batteries calling them never start batteries however I have one in a golf car that was once in a car which is 20 years old and still going. Then I recently bought a couple of cheap valucraft batteries for cars I was working on and one was a good battery and the other one was junk.

Seen them putting Case stickers on the batteries in an Exide warehouse one time.

Excide is one of the three battery manufacturers.

I don't know who made "Workaholic" batteries back in the late 90s. Maybe Exide or Interstate. But I've got one I'm still using to start my 730 Case diesel tractor. You might have seen it in a recent youtube video. That battery put in I think 16 years or so on the CIH combine. Sat on the combine all winter with no maintainers or anything. I replaced them a couple of years ago just as preventive maintenance on the combine as I figured they might die during harvest. Thats the best I've ever seen. Got pretty good service out of Case IH batteries in the late 90s as well. They went at least 15 years on the 7130 Magnum.

Just checked this morning and the 20 year old Workaholic batteries i have here were made (or sold by) Interstate so I'd say they knew how to make a battery that lasted back in the 90s. Not sure about today's batteries. This one is still showing 12.4 volts sitting on the shop floor.
