INternational 674 wont crank in cold weather.

I tried to post this on a 2005 topic, but could not.
I had this same problem for years, if temperature was above 65 degrees, the tractor started great but not below. I tried heaters, tent and propane, nothing worked other than leaving it inside a heted barn. Tough when you want to put out hay. I know this is an old post, but I wanted to tell you what I found out after trying everything on this site. I rebuilt that starter several times, even purchased a new one. nothing worked I orderd a racing starter from Chris Isom, at 888-244-8675! I have never had a problem since! I have since put so much money in this tractor, tha i could have purchased a new one! LOL! I just kept telling myself, the engine is still very good, there must still be some good in it. I think I have it all working well, Good money after bad, but it works, and I did it a few thosand at a time, reminds me of the Johnny cash car song! I say, its not the tractor I want, but it is the one I have. IF you have starter problems, call this guy, very honest, and it works, it is a High torgue starter.

Greg, sorry that you didn't get an answer in '05, but I am glad that you got it solved. Diesels need to crank at an adequate rate to build compression or they can crank all day without starting.

Our 674 will not start as cold as our 574 will. We put lower radiator hose heater in the 574 and it starts anytime we want it to. The 674 we just park in a shed not needing it till spring when we get done in the fall.

I don't think Greg was looking for the answer in '05, he was just offering his solution on a thread that was posted in '05.

Which is fine, because it's a bad idea to dredge up old topics like that anyway. People don't look at the dates, and just start responding to the thread like it was posted today. Most likely the solution would have been lost in the confusion.

i had about the same experience with my kubota, ever since new you had to use the glow plugs even when in the 80's. after 8 yrs. it needed a new battery, after replacing the battery i seldom use the glow plugs. musta got that little extra cranking speed it was lacking.
