Wouldn't even bother with the 8ft. bulbs. This guy sells the same 4ft. Long twin store units at car shows and only charges $20.oo each. I could post his number if you want him to ship ya some. Last spring at Englishtown show he went through Six pallets of these in three days !I have them in the shop and basment and they are fantastic!!!!

I have been picking up 4 footers at W Mart for $19.00, 5000 lumens This will be the second winter in an unheated garage.

If you have good, heavy duty, or hooded fixtures you want to keep, the lamps can be bought on Ebay or Amazon.

There are several choices, the wattage, color, etc.

Some have double rows of LED's for extra brightness if needed. I put up some double row LED's and they are really bright, so far so good, been up a couple weeks now.

On the 8 ft slimline and HO lamps, all I have seen are the type the ballast is removed and they are wired directly to line voltage. That eliminates the possibility of future ballast failure.

I would buy from USA sellers, look at their return and warranty policies.

Steve is right on. Of the fixtures are the old heavy duty ones keep them. Figure how long it takes to remove and replace an entire fixture compared to removing a couple ballasts and twisting a few wires. This is assuming the fixtures are screwed tight to the ceiling.

Mine were the exact same thing Jeffcat got. 5000K Daylight. NAPA had a tent at local farm equipment show a couple weeks back. They had several pallets full of these 4' double tube lights and 4' single tube, and portable LED trouble lights, both corded and battery powered.

Interesting. In my shop(s) - same building, wood on one side auto on the other separated by 1-8' and 1- 10' patio door wall (lots of lite - 2 - 4x6 skilites in auto and 3 - 2 x 14' in wood). I have a total of 18 4' fluorescents. The wood shop is 27 years old and the added auto part is near 20. I have replaced only 1 tube and they all start up and are bright. They are slow in the cold weather if I keep the in-floor heat down to save $$. 1,600 ft2 total.

These are one of the Better things being shipped out of china. You are gonna luveluve luve them. Nice how you can daisy chain them. Have no idea how many you can do that way but I did try three. My neighbor had a fixture poop out in his basement and I sold him one. His wife loves it cause she can see everything. You got just about the best price for those. The guy at the show was telling you to buy a three pack and he threw in several extra regular fixture LEDS as a gift. Home and Lowes charges 40 for those same fixtures! I love mine.

Yes it s easy to do if you have just a little electric knowledge you will have to remove the ballast and and wire them straight in. No conversion kit needed

Early 2018 Duke power sent me a offer in the mail to convert mine I took them up on it... They converted 24 8 ft'ers it cost me $1500 I figure its saving me $15/20 a month it would be more but I only turn on what I need at a time... At any given time I use 6 to 7 I ware a head light and have a nice light to go under the hood of a car I just about don't need overhead lights at all...

I have fiberglass skylights all's good in the summer but in the winter mo's I don't get good sun all day... I need to make a post on a issue I have with birds and those skylight panels...

I have been changing out the 4' tubes for LEDs at about $4.00 per tube. Nice and bright. I have removed the 8' fixtures and put outlets in the boxes where they were wired. I then hung 3' fixtures with 6 three footers to replace two 8'.

They make a conversion kit that keeps your old 8 ft fixture but changes it to use four 4 ft LEDs.
Think I gave $15 for the kit plus the bulbs, paid a little more and got a good brand of bulbs in 4000K that are same as daylight.

Loren,

Difficult to see how many Lumens on box.
I'm sold on LEDs. I'll never buy anything else for shop of barn.

I've put a few kits like this in at work and they are pretty nice. Probably going to get a few for my home shop as well.

I just had mine done. He cut the wires to the ballast and ran line voltage (110) straight to the LED bulbs. Got the bulbs off of A----n.

As Steve and Fixerupper said you want ballast bypass kits. I found them bulbs at $3.25 each in packs of 10 you have to order the wiring kits also. Once you do a couple it takes under 10 minutes per fixture. You can take the ballasts out or just leave them if you want.
