Tecumseh Electric start

Good evening Y'all.
I have a 10 hp 3,000 psi Northern Tool Co. high pressure washer powered by a 10 hp Tecumseh flat head engine. At age 80, I almost can't crank it with the rope start. I would like to purchase a starter, flywheel with ring gear and magnets for the ignition and a stator with the charge coils. If you have one or know of one I could purchase please e-mail me. [email protected] xxx leave off the x's for emailing me.

Check to see if you already have a ring gear. I bought a Lincoln welder,16 hp. When I pulled the cover off all I needed was a starter, the flywheel had a ring gear. I just charge the battery once in a while and do not have a charge circuit.

Don't overlook a 120 volt starter, if you use your washer with power nearby. All you need is the flywheel and starter - most of which include the plug and starter button.

Here in snow country most any mower/small engine shop will have the parts you need on an old snowblower in their boneyard. (In Georgia however this may not be quite so likely...!)

Gene,
I know techumseh made 10 hp vertical shaft engines with 12v electric start. It was used on craftsman 30 inch riding mowers that had transmission issues. I bought one off craigslist. I know a few places where old man on dissability supplement their income working on junk mowers that no one would touch. That's a good place to look for used parts..

Years ago I purchased a starter kit off ebay for 13 hp honda on 4000 psi pressure washer. I too couldn't start it by hand. Then I realized my arms couldn't hang on to a 13 hp pressure washer. My son wanted to borrow it to clean his driveway. I delivered it to him because he doesn't have a truck. When he wanted me to pick it up I told him NO it yours, keep it.

Just so you know. Tecumseh stopped production in 2009. So finding new parts might be a problem. Parts should still be out there.Just may take some searching.

I had the same issue on a 10 hp Tecumseh on a snow blower. I could not pull the starter rope and a brand new starter would not crank it either. It ran great after it would get it running by pulling the starter rope and using the electric starter at the same time to crank it over. The issue is with the compression release function that is built into the camshaft. If this compression release is not working, you are going to have a hard time no matter what you do.

My neighbor fried his Tecumseh snow blower starter (didn't realize it had a duty cycle) by cranking till smoke. All those parts are available on line 120v ac type. Motor is about $80, and includes the electrical interface. some flywheels may have the ring gear installed OEM. Jim

This ^^^.

Way too many complexities to try to retrofit DC electric start and the cost if you need to buy new parts would be huge.

AC electric start has been common on Techmseh snowblowers since the early 1980s, maybe even earlier.

Find an AC starter motor and as others have mentioned check the flywheel, it may have a toothed version already there.

Complete AC starter kits are on Amazon for about $75 including switch/button, starter motor, wire harness, etc. No way can you put DC starter on for anything close to that.
