Shipping an engine, how to pallet

It looks like I may have finally found the Green Diamond engine (flat head 6 with transmission) for my truck but it is in Calif and I am
in NH. Does anyone have suggestions on how the seller should mount it on a pallet for correct/safe shipping?

Thanks

Strap it to a good quality pallet. Build a frame out of 2x4 0r even 1x3's and screw on osb on the sides.

If he doesn't know, that sounds kind of scary. We ship upright with large blocks bolted
to the engine mounts where the pan doesn't hold all the weight, famed all in around it
and bolted to the pallet from there with carriage bolts, those can still be found in lengths
needed. I try to plan on a fork truck driver dropping it at least once, an ounce of prevention.
Years ago I shipped a manifold for a 15-30 through ups and it was broken when it got there, cost
me the full price of another manifold as I REALLY didn't plan ahead, the second one was packaged
for nuclear war survival.

First thing, drain it of any fluids as well as the trans. You may want to ship it on 2 pallets. A 4x4 pallet is easier to maneuver and fit in to available space. Shipping companies bill by size and weight build a frame that will support the weight on the oil pan rails, not the pan. Strap it securely so it will not move.

Unless you're going to be there, not much you can do but have faith they know what they are doing.

About all you can do is ask if there is anything you can do, like pay extra shipping to get the best packing they offer, and ask if the carrier offers extra insurance.

Had a guy ship a complete G JD on pallets last winter. Rear end, crankcase where on one and front end and misc. on the other. NY to Sd cost around $600 by Fastenal. Small strap binders are pretty cheap and do a good job of holding it in place.

I would want to have a tight frame made of hardwood bolted together to hold it by the mounts. The pan will hold the weight OK but it is too narrow and the engine too top heavy to keep it from tipping over.
