Roosa Injector pump question

I have an Oliver 1750 diesel that has not run for quite a few years. Before I try to turn her over I was warned to make sure the injector pump was free. I pulled the cover, marked everything, and tried to pull just the gear but the shaft came out as well. What's the trick to put the shaft back in? Keeps hanging up on the seal.

On the up side the pump turns fine.

I dont know any way to get the seal back into the pilot tube without removing the pump and compressing the seal from the pump side. You will also have also have to put the gear in the correct time as well as the pump timed also. Set the number one cyl. to the correct time and install the pump with the timing lines lined up in the timing window. While the pump is off slide your finger in the pilot tube and feel for smoothness. If there is a deep grove you will have a very hard time getting the seal past it without folding the lip over. This when its time for a new pilot tube. Al

You will need the seal compression tool. It can be done without it. But if you cut the seal. It lets diesel into the oil pan.

Al I reread your post and I agree. Plus if the engine has not been run in a few years. It would be better to take the pump to a shop. Have them go over it and replace the seals.Without the tool it is hard to do.I have done it my way and it worked. But that was when I had no choice. Take a chance or drive 200 miles back to Dallas. To a pump shop.

If I knew the engine was OK I'd send the pump off to be rebuilt but at this point I have my concerns. From the sludge I drained out of the pan and the condition of the filter she did not see much maintenance.

Thanks much for the guidance guys!

I have worked on engines and machinery of all kinds all my life, several years ago I
ignored everyone on the internet and tried to rebuild the roosa master pump on my 340
utility.
Ended up wasting money on a kit and taking it to a professional rebuilder in the end,
cost plenty but the results were worth it.
