806 diesel with an 856 injector pump

Kory, I think this has been answered to you several times but in short no. You have to look back IH had the dt 361 engine, used in tractors and construction equipment, like the td15 B dozer. Latter they came with the DT 407 engine larger bore. The 407 is just an improved dt361. Same with your 806 and 856 just a little more engine. We have put many of the 407 pumps on the old 361 engines with no problem. Timed to high they will run hot too low and will be hard to start. I really never paid a lot attention to the marks but more just found a sweet spot between good starting and good running. I guess at 76 years old what I am trying to tell you is you are making a mountain out of a mole hill is the way old folks would put it. Just get the thing running and watch the temp and ever thing will be fine. I can,t see that pump over fueling the engine unless you really dogged it. Good luck and hope you get this problem behind you.

Amen,i was thinkin same thing, when i worked at ihc we put several 856 pumps on 806 to replace those old ihc pumps.seems like fuel delivery rate is almost the same, timing is only diffrence

Time it to the 856 spec.s and be done with it and see how it runs and if you get a timing window you can adjust to fine tune while running . You are over thinking the wheel here and like the other oold COOT that has worked on them for years as i have this is the way it is done . Myself i have been around the 806 since Sept 63 when my old boss bought the vary first one see and sold in the Buckeye state and a week later my uncle bought the second one sold and i have plum lost count on the 806's i have had and still have my ugly one . only way i can keep one is to keep it ugly that way nobody bugs me to sell it. So let her leak oil out of all four corners and the paint be rust as long as it runs like it does it is fine.

TTV How dare you call me an OLD COOT, well come to think of it that was a pretty good compliment, lots off experience here, I did not want to get on him too hard because I do not know the guy but like you said nothing that hard to do on an old 407, pretty forgiving engine. Maybe he will get it going.

Well once ya go over the BIG 70 you become and OLD COOT . Myself included . Did not feel that way till i went down and now i feel that way . Had the knife fight with the heart doctor at the start of summer and now having issues with his witch potions . Flippen idiots put me on one that can lead to breathing problems to someone that only has 48 % lung capacity then the other one can cause mussel weakness . ain't said nothing or called him as i go see him here in a couple weeks and letting my aggression build and when i see him face to face i will unload , then he can tell me again i need to go to anger management for about the sixth time . then i tell him if he would just think befor he write on his little pad and if indoubt then look up the SIDE AFFECTS.

I was 76 in May, had my heart bout back in 2009 . Just takes time to build back up to strength and get the medic ens straighten out. As you have noticed there are side affects to those medic-ens. Stay with it and you will work it out.
