So this truck was hauled in today. I forget where it is headed. I took pics of it then happened to see the little words on the tires. Any info on these tires or truck?

Mid 60,s made just after freightliner bought out white P.I.E. and TransCon bought them to order for linehaul

I don't know a thing about it. I neither buy nor sell. The name "Oliver" piqued my interest enough to google it. (;>))

I've had Oliver caps. Red Star trucking line was headquartered right here in Auburn NY, 15 minutes north of me. They had their own tire shop there, and were happy to do outside work. I remember looking for 12R22.5 steer tires, when the manager offered to cap some he had. I protested, thinking that was not only unsafe, but illegal. He was a little bothered I would question him, and said he wouldn't do it if it was unsafe or illegal! So, we did, and they worked fine. Great guy. Chuck Jayne was his name. He was amazed at the other places around the country which would get away with capping out of date tires. Then Red Star got bought out, and shut down.

That's a neat looking old truck, just right for a museum! If someone wanted to put it on the road, those blasted old tube type bias tires on split rims ought to go!

Oliver re-caps--we used lots of them. Came from St. Cloud Tire in St. Cloud Mn. some of the best caps we had over 34 years I was with the company. We used caps on the drives, but never on the steer axle. Gary.

I used to get car tires recapped by Bandag in the late "70's, rode kinda hard (bias ply) until they warmed up!!

Mark,
I know a retired trucker. He said one time he went down a road by mistake and had to back up. He need a tractor with a short wheelbase to get his trailer out of the jam he got himself into.
He said short tractors are used at a truck terminal because they can back trailers up easier.

I'm not a trucker. Not sure if what I posted above is true or not.

The truck is a 60 model, I found it neat cause it is a White made in 60 with Oliver on the tires and if memory serves me White bought Oliver in 60.
