Has anyone ever had the PTO coupling (#19) go bad? It appears that may be my problem. I've removed the first reduction gear case thinking a bearing might be bad, but couldn't find anything wrong. I hear a (grinding) noise when I engage the PTO shift lever & the PTO does not turn. Any suggestions would be very helpful. THANK YOU

Or the bevel gears could be busted up in the bottom of the tranny ? Even worse yet is when the boss to hold them is busted out of the main case. Only way to know is to open it up and go searching.

Pull the shifter housing off. You can see the bevel gears that drive the PTO. I have seen the bearings out, I have seen the gears destroyed and the worst of all is when the casting that the bearing goes in on the bottom of the transmission case is broken out. You have to replace the entire center case. This can easily happen if you do drain the transmission case regularly. Any water lays right on the bottom where the PTO drive is located. The bearing goes first then if ran too long the ear/casting on the bottom of the case will break or egg shape.
