Just wondering if anyone out there is growing hemp? Have a neighbor in Mendon Michigan with 100 acres. looks really good to me but I have no idea what it should look like. Been told they are flying in guys from Colorado to see what he has going on since its supposedly a very good stand. Also heard he's looking for places to hang it to dry and does not have near enough space yet.

From what I've seen, you're going to need hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment to harvest it, and that's IF you have a market nearby. Youtube video I saw has a machine that cuts off the tops for feed, puts them in a bin on top, and the stems are cut and windrowed for fiber. After the tops accumulate in the bin on top, they are emptied into a waiting truck or wagon.
That harvester is probably way more expensive that a combine with a big grain or corn head. And you're not going to find any uses equipment like that.
And I don't know that I would want to deal with all the idiots who don't know the difference between industrial hemp and pot who would be coming out to steal plants.

It has become a major crop here in W. Ky. this year. I am not growing any but the neighbor farm has 1500 acres +/-. Some are having 100 acres +/- and some as little as 10 as an experiment. It's an all new venture this year with a big learning curve.

There is a field, prob 50 acres, just to
the south of me. They cut some of it with
a discmower..no rollers and left it lay
for a week. Yesterday they round baled it
and put on a semi. With this hot southern
wind I can smell it right now. Reminds me
of the last concert I went too!
